Hello!
This is my first post. I've been looking in on this marvelous site for months now and have been a member for a bit. A student of the I Ching for some years now. I've just had the most unexpected thing happen--my house in Houston literally sold overnight. My intention is to move to Austin, only now instead of months to decide where to move I now have 40 days (it was a cash sale). So I asked Yi, Where best to move in Austin? and received Hex 28 unchanging. I am, Libran Sun that I am, torn between living in Central Austin (close in to everything, including the Universities where I would like to eventually teach); South Austin (wonderfully liberal, quaint and walkable--a great place for a therapy practice); The Green Belt (North Austin--appeals to the nature lover in me and my love of privacy); Lake Travis (serene and out of the way); or perhaps further out--Like in Dripping Springs (in the Austin Hill Country--lovely, but a big drive to everything). I'm gifted with a job right now that allows me the flexibility to move anywhere as I am working from home, so this makes the decision making process all the more difficult. I would so appreciate any insight you might provide!

28 indicates that since your house is no longer a place you can stay, it is advantageous for you to go wherever you want to go. It also suggests that you live in central Auatin because it is a place close in to everyting, and that is what 亨 means.

I don't think you phrased your question correctly. How is the Yi Ching supposed to reply to you?

If I were you I'd ask a series of questions such as "Should I move to Central Austin?" or "How pleased will I be if I move to Central Austin?" and repeat for all the possible locations. I'd then compare the different hexagrams I got for each place.

Where Should I Move in Austin?
28 unchanging

The hexagram is visually balanced, well-suited for a Libran. Trigrams are Lake over Wood, which would fit the Lake Travis area, so you might begin your search there. The idea of age suggests the quaint South Austin. The hexagram is a warning against structural unsoundness, so have the house professionally inspected before committing to buy. Would you be eating out often? :)

Thank you for your feedback

Thank you all for your thoughtful feedback. I wasn't aware that I had received answers as I had turned on the email notification feature, and it evidently didn't work.

So, months later--Pocossin, your suggestion of the Lake Travis area was very appropriate. While I didn't settle in Lake Travis, I did settle in West Lake Hills--a lovely area with an abundance of hills and lakes.

Your comment about possible problems with the structural integrity of the house was also interesting--while the house itself seems pretty sound, the payments turned out to be something of a stress and considerably more than I expected. I also wasn't at all prepared for MY response to the stress of the move, which included extreme exhaustion, loss of hair and a three week bout with bronchitis. So, I think the Yi was being brilliantly hollographic in its assessment of the complexities of this move and its "28ness".

Thanks again,
