Who should toss the coins?

In my opinion, it's not so important who tosses the coins: the important thing is that they should be completely focussed on the question, concentrated and open, ready to accept the answer. Also, of course, they need to know the method! I've had good results both from casting the coins on someone else's behalf and when they perform the consultation themselves.

So I'd say ask the person you're reading for what they would prefer, and go with that.

I would like to widen the question:in her book"the i ching and you" Dianna f. Hook states that consulting the i ching for other person one should not let him throw the coins. She considers the coins personal since one had blessed them and said a prayer. My question is: does the I Ching speak throug the one who had tossed the coins' or does it not have an importance? if i do toss the coins for other dose"nt my psyche interfere in the process? I consult the I Ching for many years
for other persons and always let them toss the
coins' and always had a good results.

Different diviners, different methods.

I don't think there are many absolute rules.

The way I understand things, "traditional soothsayers" in China were "to busy" to cast hexagrams for people. Instead, an individual would grab two or three wands out of the basket, and the soothsayer would interpret them for the individual.

My personal take is that if one is using yarrow stalks, then the individual who is doing the interpretation should cast them --- if only because s/he can, in theory, do it much faster.

If using coins, gems, 64 wands, seeds or most
of the similar methods, I don't think it makes much difference.

If one is casting a hexagram using "natural events" like planes taking off and landing, then the whole question of who casts the hexagram is moot.

IOW, I don't think it really matters as to who/what creates the hexagram that is consulted.
