Hey all,

I have been feeling quite jealous (inwardly)- when I read gratitude emails (full of compliments) sent to a guy that really like and who cares for me, and who really deserves these compliments.

I know that jealous comes from insecurity, yeah... but I would prefer not to have this feeling. :duh: So I asked "why I am jealous of the women that this guy is dealing with". The response is 22.1 to 52.

I am having trouble to understand this answer based on my question.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

In the context of your question, I would say this response indicates that perhaps you do not feel like you are "enough" for him just as you are. All the lavish compliments seem so grand and demonstrative....and the image of 22.1 is one who leaves the carriage to walk on foot, simple and pure.

all the grand, lavish displays in the world are not as beautiful as the simple heart, with solid unmovable affection (52) ...remind yourself that you are enough just as you are.

So well put listener..I was thinking of this too. 22.1 seems to be saying to you to leave your less important qualities (eg how outgoing you are, dress sense, how many friends you have etc..) and to look at yourself in a simpler way to understand yourself better. Maybe you could ask iching what you should do to understand yourself better?

It is quite normal to have feelings of jealousy especially if you care about someone but I think as long as you don't let this influence you negatively in your friendship it should be okay.

In general, if you are jealous of somebody it may be because that person manifests a quality that you also have but for some reason don't manifest or express.
So, instead of looking at jealousy as an undesirable 'negative' emotion you can also see it as an emotion that can help you because it tries to tell you something. It tries to tell you that you have a quality, a talent, that you keep hidden from yourself and others.

In this case it's apparently (hexagram 22) the quality of beauty, elegance, grace.
Perhaps you think of it as something that is unimportant, superficial, but deeper in your heart, is there not a desire to express this quality?
The Yi makes a distinction here (in line 1), between your feet and the carriage in which you drive. It's the distinction between what is really yours and what is not yours, what is merely outward appearance. The carriage may be beautiful but this beauty is indeed superficial, it doesn't express YOU and you don't need it. But the beauty and elegance of your feet, and the way you walk, that symbolizes your own beauty and elegance. It's wholly yours, it is essential, not superficial, and it wants to express itself.

Makes sense? :)
