This man and I share a love of photography and started corresponding through email. He expresses his emotions as beautifully as he takes his pictures and I am drawn into the whole creative experience of communicating with him. He has said he loves me and wants me to express my love for him and is wanting more and more of my time. I find I want to please him but also questioning why he's so important to me when there can be no future?

Grace is describing the pleasure to my heart, the clarity to my mind and the harmony to my soul that I believe I'm experiencing. But why would I question such loveliness? Grace is also telling me it is not a moment I can hang my hat on. In it's static form the meaning might be he is important because I want to hold on to the dream, to hang my hat on the stars in my eyes.

Any other insights would be welcome.

i think you got it right, at least this is how 22 uc usually played out for me. it generally points to a facade or more superficial aspects in relation to... relations? there's something of a play (possibly leading someone on without truly meaning it), masquerade or an illusion to it as well.

having said that, i had 22 come up when asking about creative endeavours and quite specifically photography. so i believe he's also important because of it, especially if you're beautifying the world through that medium together (beautifying or adornment being other names for this hexagram).

Thank you for clarifying this reading for me. Wonderful medium to get to the root of an issue. Now how do I go forward from here knowing what I now know? Changes things doesn't it. Thank you again!

Richard Rutt calls Hex. 22 'Bedight' an archaic word for 'adorn' which is similar to a more common name for Hex. 22, 'adornment'.

The two trigrams - three line figures which make up a hexagram - are Mountain above, Fire below. So, one way to look at this might be:

Flame / Fire below is you: you want, or are longing for, connection (maybe a connection through shared interests, etc.), and perhaps also a place or relationship that feels safe.

Mountain above is this man: he has a strong sense of self - maybe manifesting through his creativity. He may represent a strong, safe 'place' for you. He may also be (or seem) unchanging, someone who wants - or offers - stability. And maybe these are the qualities you find attractive in him.

Or ... another way of looking at this comes to mind; when I first heard this idea of 'adornment' associated with this hexagram I didn't really like it; it reminded me of someone putting on 'airs' or wearing gaudy jewelry ....

.... but digging a bit deeper, we find the act of 'adornment' all the time in nature: plants adorn themselves with flowers and scents; male birds adorn themselves with colorful feathers and plumage ... and so forth. And what they have in common is the act of attraction - to attract a sexual partner, or a bee or bug to carry away pollen .... and so forth.

So it made me wonder, could your question - 'Why is he important to me?' - sort of be missing the point? And instead, is it possible that he's important to you because you're attracted to him (and he to you)? And that attraction is what's really important.

I hope that is of some use. D

Your use of adornment as the act of attraction is beautifully put. It is a natural process of expressing your feelings and is very real and important but it is an ideal place to be in for a short period of time. The unchanging may represent my desire to stay in this ideal place and not move forward and build on firmer ground or this ideal place is the only grounds in which this relationship can continue?

You are very correct about the stability he offers. He does his best to convey his feelings and what we share is unchanging. He makes sure everyday with writing and his words that it is very true and real and not to doubt him. That is very comforting and builds trust. And what I find attractive.

Very thought provoking reading. Thank you so much.

22 means surface beauty. It has no substance. How can anyone 'love' anyone else if they have not met them in real life? How, without seeing how they speak, move, react to everyday situations? It's impossible. This is not love. I wonder if soon he'll start asking you for money (22 can signify 'money' too).

dfreed has make a great case for 22 in their response to me on this matter. It is a new relationship, only a month old and the attraction is strong and undeniable. Words you write is a powerful way to express you care for another's welfare and bring joy to your life. We ware facing challenges now as we try to deepen the relationship and I'm are finding out how truly 'surface' we understand each other. I'll be posting about this issue in a bit as #6, Arguing.
Thank you for your response, it's much appreciated!

Visual arts are in the realm of 22.
You find his work (& him?) beautiful.

Grace is describing the pleasure to my heart, the clarity to my mind and the harmony to my soul that I believe I'm experiencing. But why would I question such loveliness? Grace is a terrible name for 22.
(because of the historical religious usage of the word)
It isn't about gracefulness or 'god's-grace'
Not even remotely related.

It's about appearances and beautification
(not beatification or anything divine.)

Also note the warning in the Image.
