Why is xxxx depressed? 12.4.5 > 23

Hey guys, I asked the iching a question about someone very close and dear to me who seems to be depressed. I asked the following:

Why is he depressed?

12.4.5 to 23

And

How can I help him?

58.1 to 47

I appreciate any and all interpretations or insights!

I think he realized that he is stuck(12), and has to let go of something(23) in order to advance(.4,.5). But he finds it hard to do.

You can help him by simply taking him out somewhere and having pure fun (58 Joyous), because he is exhausted (47).


His realization can be about something material, job-related, or a whole worldview. (12.4 - 'follow the command of heavens')

Hi sarararahh Is he doing some sort of inner self work? Sometimes this sort of work brings up deep issues which we have to process and work through to 'strip' them away. From experience it can cause sadness and depression.
I think just being there for him is the best way you could help him at this time. - Liss

Thank you ashteroid, I think you're right, he is smart and probably aware that he is stuck. It would be my best guess that his realization would encompass all of those things, material wealth, job value and world view, which are intertwined for him at this time. it makes me really sad to think of him as being exhausted. Goodness, this is valuable information. It's odd how I do benefit from hearing insights into this that sound so familiar; as if I already knew it. I guess that's how the truth resonates.

And Thank you goddessliss, as far as I know he very well could be doing inner work, I wouldn't put it past him. Even though I wish I could do the inner work for him, I think you're right and thank you for the advice, I will do my best to be there for him however I can and brighten his life. Thank you
