Alo! I hope someone can help me with this. I appreciate your responses.

Last Thursday I went with a friend to a concert. She drove and parked her car not too far and we took a ride share car to the venue. before we got into the ride share car, I changed my purse in my friends car (stupid I know). I didn’t want to carry my whole purse to the venue. So I only took my ID & debit card and some makeup. My friends car windows are tinted BLACK and there was no one on the street. I think I checked but can’t be sure as we were already late and rushing (which is why I didn’t have time to leave my main purse at home). Anyway we went to the concert. It was a fun time.

However, when we got back to the car, my friends window had been smashed in and my purse stolen from the floor of the car.

So it’s been another tough year with lots of ups & downs. I know. That’s life. But it’s really really making me unhappy. I can’t seem to get ahead or if I do a setback comes and knocks me back. Getting covid from someone who didn’t tell me they weren’t vaccinated. My mom dying. Having to take a break from my career. Feeling depressed again. Money stress. Lonely. Alone. Etc etc.

I keep picking myself up and life keeps knocking me down. I don’t know what it, whatever it is, wants from me. Am I doomed to this miserable life? Lately I had been feeling better, meditating, doing yoga reading etc. then this totally bs thing happens to me. And now I’m like, what is going on?

So I respectfully asked IChing:
Why was my purse stolen? Why did that happen to me?

I received:
49.4 to 63

Hexagram 49, Radical Change

49.gif

Oracle
'Radical change.
On your own day, there is truth and confidence.
From the source, creating success, constancy bears fruit.
Regrets vanish.'

It is time for transformation. The old Chinese character for 'Radical Change', which also means 'leather', shows an animal hide: this is change like a shaman's, putting on a new skin to change your identity. And it is also revolutionary change: this hexagram marks the day when the Zhou people and their allies marched out to meet the armies of the corrupt Shang dynasty, and defeated them. You change the governing principle, and bring about renewal.

In the moment of change, there is truth – sincerity and a sure knowledge. Then the power of the whole unfolding creative process, from the source through to fruition and fulfilment, can enter here and change the world. Naturally regrets vanish, along with the past to which they belong. The new time is coming.

Changing Lines

Line 4

'Regrets vanish, there is truth and confidence.
Changing mandate, good fortune.'

Hexagram 63, Already Across

63.gif

Oracle

'Already across, creating small success.
Constancy bears fruit.
Beginnings, good fortune – endings, chaos.'

You have committed yourself and made a transition. Even if the change so far is internal, a resolve formed or decision made, there is a sense in which everything is in place. Now you create success in small ways and in small things: you attend to details, working with what you've already decided or achieved. In following through, you stay loyal to your original reasons for making the crossing.
It's not that what you have begun here must inevitably fall apart. Only if you feel as if you've 'arrived' already and let yourself come to a halt, then you lose your path and then it all falls apart. Work with what you've accomplished so far, and keep your momentum: keep on beginning.

Image

'Stream dwells above fire: Already Across.
A noble one reflects on distress and prepares to defend against it.'

———

I’m not sure what to make of this. Is the Yi saying that it was good fortune for my purse to be stolen and my friend to how he out of pocket to replace her car window? Or that our evening was ruined?
Yes it’s over. It happened in the past so I’m already across. (Is that what that means?) but it’s not really over as I deal with the fallout (Banks etc) and all these horrible feelings.

I’ve already been instigating many many many changes in my life using yoga, meditation and therapy etc so WHY are all these shitty things still happening to me? I want to know so I can STOP another shitty thing for happening. I’m utterly exhausted. I do not understand what I am doing wrong.

how is this good fortune? I feel so very very sad about this. I thought I didn’t but I do. It’s awful. I’m alone in life so I have to handle this on my own. So I’m trying to understand. When are things going to get better? Ever?

I had previously asked what’s wrong with me and got 46 Pushing Upward unchanging. I’m already pushing up as hard as I can.

Thanks for anyone who reads all this and responds. I appreciate you! Namasté 🙏🏽🧘🏽‍♀️

So I respectfully asked IChing:
Why was my purse stolen? Why did that happen to me?

But, I respectfully ask, there is no why is there ?

Your purse wasn't stolen for any reason that you created it's just that someone stole your purse.

It's very harmful for people to start believing bad things happen to them because they are bad or they attracted it. Innocent people suffer all the time.

It does seem strange that often theft occurs after bereavement, at least from what I've observed I don't know if it is statistically true. I was burgled about 5 months after my partner died and my 90 year old mum had her bag stolen a few months after her sister died. A neighbour had his garden vandalized not long after his wife died....it's all anecdotal, but I have heard/read somewhere these incidents often seem to tally with/after bereavement which is pretty awful and the last thing one needs!

But in any case I really do feel Yi is leapfrogging your question and heading straight to the new purse you will be buying, a leather one I imagine. I'm not kidding either, 49, is shedding, shedding of old skin and by line 4 the old skin is shed and it's time for the new order. 49 starts in line one with the tightness of the old leather on the shoes. I recall Brad I think describing it as that itchy feeling, the need for change. Well it's arrived by line 4 and I just feel strongly Yi is steering you away from sadness towards the new. Towards the new purse literally.

The advice is not to look back but forward to whatever is new and that starts with buying the nicest purse you can find !

I'm very sorry to hear you lost your mum and then all these things went wrong and now this, it's a real low ebb for you but I do believe this reading isn't dwelling on your losses it's turning your head towards the next thing. You said you had money worries but I hope you can afford to get a new purse you really like and try to hold onto this answer because to me it feels like a ray of sunshine for you, a ray of hope to look forward to a new kind of life that's coming to you along with the new purse you have to buy. You're facing forward towards the new, Yi says no need to think about whys of the past now it's the future you're geared to and a good one at that.

Thanks for your reply Trojina! Your interpretation has made me feel a little better. My birthday is coming up next month so maybe I’ll treat myself to a really nice bag. I haven’t done that in years! And a new wallet too... the one that was stolen was on its last legs anyway. So that makes sense.

The last 2-3, well really 5 years have been quite awful. So now my mind just goes to the negative no matter how hard I try to retrain it. I know what happened wasn’t personal but it just feels like it is. I was born in such disturbing dark heavy circumstances that I’ve spent my life trying to overcome it. I’m exhausted.

So thanks for the different perspective of the reading. I appreciate it. I thought the Yi was having a laugh at my expense lol (figuratively speaking).

Now I’m off to go get a cute leather handbag and cheer up. Out with the old & IN with the new! ☺️

Why was my purse stolen? Why did that happen to me? I received: 49.4 to 63

Here 49's lower trigram (three-line figure) is Fire (which can be about feeling safe); the upper trigram is Lake, about joy, and with the 4th moving line you have Water.

This seems like a lesson to me: that along with seeking joy (lake) you need to be aware of your surroundings - as you would traveling the rapids of a river; and (in this case) since you've become aware of this particular 'danger', next time you may want to leave your valuables at home and this will provide more of a sense of safety and joy for you.

What stands out for me in line 49.4 are the words, " .... regrets disappear - change the [your?] mandate [and then] good fortune" (based on trans. by Field) I see this as suggesting that along with changing where you leave your purse when you go out, you might want to change your way of looking at this (and other) situations: I see no 'blame' here - so perhaps the universe IS NOT punishing you (for some awful thing you think you did) by stealing your purse!

Stephen Field's name for 49 is Molting - which can be about getting rid of old ways of seeing and being: trigram Fire is about inner clarity, co-existing with others, and a sense of protection, giving support for - and giving rise to - joy (upper trigram Lake).

Best, D

I think it refers simply to the actual ‘change’ of deciding to leave your purse in the car. The purse was stolen because it was in the car, that’s all. The windows are tinted so it’s not why they broke in. But since it was there, they took it. This happens all the time in life, we can’t foresee every outcome. If you had brought it something could have happened to it inside too, like leaving it in the bathroom sink. You changed your mind and left it, so it was taken. I don’t think there’s any moral issue or culpability. I’m sorry that happened on top of other challenges — I like the idea you said of getting yourself a nice bag for your birthday! I once treated myself to a really, really beautiful wallet for the first time ever and I made way more money that year. Read about the feng shui of wallets and purses and get yourself something great!

Edit: this also reminds me of a pattern of 63 resulting hex meaning that you already know, it’s done, it happened… essentially saying it is what it is and you don’t necessarily need to think about it much beyond that

Trying to be both very literal and not, all at once - maybe the "why" is so you can experience regrets vanishing, truth and confidence in your ability to handle it ( 😩 ), the changing mandate of getting a new purse and being okay with that and hopefully even happy in the end when it's all behind you...

That might not make sense, it's just an angle that occurred to me in trying to combine the reading with your question of "why." I agree it's a chirpy answer for a rotten incident.

As Trojina said, there's not always a deep reason for everything. So it's a light form of "why," maybe. More like, "Okay, this happened, what can I take from it, how can I make the best of it?"
