Will I get the job?

So I applied for a role that I really want and have been invited to a first stage interview. I don’t usually ask questions with yes or no answers but really wanted to know if I’d get it so I asked if I would get the job I had applied for.

I received hex 45 (gathering) line 6 changing to hex 12 (standstill). Hex 12 I understand as I am at a standstill in my life right now, I’m between jobs, I quit my last one because I wasn’t happy and I don’t really know what my next move is and therefore everything is ‘blocked’.

Can anyone shed any light on the hex 45 with moving line 6. The line refers to sighing and weeping but no blame which doesn’t sound very positive in itself. Then again the judgement part seems to mention success and that meeting a great man brings success and good fortune. There was a commentary I found that talked about not resting in his topmost positon just yet - this made me a bit worried as the role I have applied for is a manegerial position (top of the ranks as such) and suggested to me either that I won’t get it or that I might not be happy in the role if I did?

Any further input/suggestions would be great as I’m not always the best interpreter and often have a habit of reading things in a way that makes it fit the outcome I want which never helps.

Thanks

Hi ChangingOne,

"Will I get the job?"
45.6 to 12 ~ Yes, if...and...

From the Daniel Young i-Ching:

45. Gathering Together
A spirit of sacrifice fills the gathering. The leader's respect for spiritual matters and wise advice insures success for as long as it lasts. Great sacrifices bring good fortune and movement in the chosen direction.

6. A message contains tears but is without fault.

and

12. Obstruction
It is an obstruction due to opposition. The superior person's forecasts are useless. The small arrive and the great leave.

So, I read it as:

Yes, you can get the job, if you impress at the interview by showing a commitment to principled leadership and level-headed decision-making...

...and, be prepared, the economic winds are changing ~ the conditions you are stepping into may call for difficult choices ahead?

Good luck with the interview!

Thanks so much that certainly does make a lot of sense. I’ve completed the first stage interview so just waiting to hear back fingers crossed!!

You could also see hexagram 12, as "heaven and earth move away from each other"
Meaning that maybe the role will seperate you from those below you to a greater extent than you've experienced before?
It will be a very high level role, completely detached from the everyday, where you may not have much contact with co-workers. Is this what you want?
(My personal feeling, maybe intuition, is that this is somewhat due to how the company is organised, that similar roles in other companies would be more connected with team members)
It could be lonely, with a large 'moat' between you and teams, and not much team spirit.

From LiSe:
The great image says: Heaven and Earth do not interact: obstruction. The noble one holds back his virtue and avoids disaster. He does not allow honor by an official salary.

Could be that you won't like how the company runs, or how other high level people at similar levels to you treat those under them (why the 'noble one's refuses the salary, and refuses to attach his honour to the situation? )

Also, LiSe has documented a mirror for this line, that you might find interesting:

The mirror of 11.1-12.6-45.6-46.1

About how one thing makes other(s) come along

11.1 Uproot thatchgrass shoots, interlaced due to it’s kind. To make order is auspicious.
Solving one problem always pulls other solutions along as well.

12.6 The obstruction is temporary. First obstruction, later rejoicing.
Obstructions serve as lessons how to improve things. Use those lessons!

45.6 Moans and sighs, tears and snot. Without fault.
Let others know about your problems and they will help.

46.1 Ascending with confidence. Greatly auspicious. (Fu: blessed by ancestors)
With assistance you ascend better.

Mirror groupings 11.1 and 11.6 are contrasts

(all yang lines of Mirror 11.1 are yin lines in Mirror 11.6 and vv)
Mirror 11.1 is about one thing causes other(s) come along.
Mirror 11.6 is about how room (emptyness) makes things come in.
How I found the Mirrors and how they work

URL for above: https://www.yijing.nl/structures/mirrors/11.1-45.6.html

The images of the cast, and resulting hexagram make me think of a person sat at a big desk in a high up office, with many papers that they can do nothing with, looking glum. It could be a figurehead type role, as in others slightly lower but there a lot longer, have over time just taken on responsibilities and figured ways around obstacles, due to 'red tape', to get the job done, however, in the process, the role has become much further seperated from what is going on under it, much further removed.

It might be good to consult with others in similar roles, or to check online sites like glassdoor, both re the company culture, and to see if there has been a high turnover for roles like this in the company?

Also, this mirror makes me think that you are going to need a "little black book" of network contacts, that you are going to need the help of others in the field at similar levels, to successfully discharge the duties of the job.

Seems to me that if you are successful at it, many things will work amazingly, however, if you encounter even a little problem, it will be so entwined with other systemic issues, that your duties will become very very difficult to discharge.

You could also read the mirrors as "other stuff going on around the situation that affect the issue", and it could be that other high level colleagues are blocked, that there is potential to overcome the challenges if you can identify and "shadow" those in the organisation who seem to be making their way 'step by step' (46.1).

It does sound like a very challenging post, though!
Have you asked Yi about whether it would be better to seek a similar post in other companies?

Hope my take on it is useful for you ChangingOne!

Hi,
I don't think this reading indicates success here.

If the line said:
Rejoicing and Smiling,
Lots of laughter,
That's great!

Then, I would think it did.

But, it says:
Wilhelm: Lamenting and sighing, floods of tears. No blame.

Let us know what happens?
