I think I would view these lines a bit more as Berkers, Wilhelm and Legge do:"[With guidance comes (a sense of) direction] Brightness doubled generates radiance. One uses continuous brightness (guidance) to illuminate (become aware of) the direction of the four point of the compass.
Line 1:One has a tendency to gloss-up the path that one follows [especially if new to it.] This enhances one's attitude towards it (another gloss-up). No harm in this."
Line 3 : The setting of the Sun[The end of the road/path. The light going out.]. No celebration, just a very old man lamenting the past. Unfortunate."
Line 6:
From a position of strength, one enforces discipline through removing the head. Once done there is no need for the body. No harm in this."
A seed sleeps, but when the moisture of the earth awakens it, it has a power to grow which can even split rocks. The power of life.
Nobody can say exactly what the spark of life is, but everybody knows it. One feels it inside and one sees it on the outside. If it is bright, life is full and easy, if it is dim, everything in life is dim too.
It is the inborn vitality which makes things live and grow. Give beings, things or actions all they need for a strong and healthy life. Then their own vitality will sprout and they will grow into their fullest potential.
Everything starts small, from a seed.
3. Difficulties
Difficulties.
A foundation for progress.
It is beneficial to persist.
No use going to the goal that is there.
It is beneficial to set a target.
Working on solving difficulties. This is a basis for further progress. It is important to persevere. Because of the difficulties, it makes no sense to go to the actual goal. It is a good idea to try something.
30. Separating
Line 1:
Threading disorderly,
but nevertheless respectfully.
Without fault.
There is some stumbling or misstepping, perhaps because of lack of experience. This however happens in a spirit of respect. It is not to blame.
Line 3:
The sun moves to the West, it goes away.
No drumming on pots while singing,
thus a lot of old people's moaning.
Misfortune.
The end of a period is coming near. There is a tendency to moan and complain, and not try to make the best of it. Things don't go well.
Line 6:
The king issues a ban.
Going is appreciated,
though the verdict is that the captured leader is not a bad person.
Without fault.
Getting rid of someone (or something). It is not so that there is something wrong with this person, but the situation is thus that it's better that way. Doing this is not to blame.
Hexagram is changing to:
16. Hesitating
Hesitating.
It is beneficial to set a target, and mobilize the army.
Hesitating. It is a good idea to try something, and set things in motion.
