I applied for this job at writer.com (Crowdsource) and did the test they sent me. As a seasoned writer I'm surprised I didn't make it. In fact I'd asked the Yi what were my chances and had got 64 lines 4 and 6 moving to the victorious 7. I'd though I'd better watch the over celebration (line 6) and was pretty sure I'd get it. I'm mystified. Did I interpret it wrongly?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I just re-read the text of lines 4 and 6. Line 4 says to rise up and with great effort overcome some 'devilish' elements, that in three years there will be a victory. As you know, line 6 warns against being immoderate in the drinking of wine. Maybe you were expecting victory too soon, because the efforts in 64.4 are quite prolonged and strenuous. 64.4 seems to be more in the nature of striving for a long-term goal and overcoming serious obstacles to a new way of life.

What were my chances?
64.4.6 > 7

How many thousands were you competing against for this one job?

As a seasoned writer I'm surprised I didn't make it.

I'm not. Yes, you are a seasoned writer. I have read with interest much you have written on the Internet. However, your writing is best when you are recounting personal experience, as is to be expected for an enneagram 7. Crowdsource apparently wanted someone with a different frame of mind.

Did I interpret it wrongly?

Persons interpret according to their understanding, so in this matter there is no 'right' and 'wrong', although there is success and failure. We are condemned to follow our personality, wherever it leads. Why do you think hexagram 7 is victorous? I understand 7 as an expeditionary force sent out to repel invaders. The hard truth is invasions are often successful, else national boundaries would be fixed for all time.

Pocossin, could you please explain the personal writing implied by 7? I have a first novel published which is fantasy but the characters are certainly drawn from life. I think a writer mostly writes from his experience after all, no matter how disguised the output may be.

Thank you

Ginnie - thank you. A great effort and long term goal? Hmmm, maybe the Yi is pointing me elsewhere and not answering the question directly. Often the Yi points to issues which are more important at the time.

Hello Circe, the readng points out that it has nothing to do with you.The company needs to organize their management force. They need strong leadership and people to be loyal to one central idea and they don't seem to have it. There is alot of crap going on.

I have experienced 64.6 as things that we take for granted. The imagery of drinking too much wine suggests a celebration too early, too soon, when in fact conditions are not settled yet. Also the idea of 64.4.6 moving to 7 does not make sense to me. You were expecting hex 7 to be the outcome, which is not the case as a relating hexagram. That is how, I believe, the interpretation did not match the reality.:bows:

Yes, following up on what Mirian just wrote above, only rarely does the second hexagram represent the outcome. Usually the relating hexagram gives the context of the inquiry. In this case, it seems to indicate your hopes of being taken onboard; in other words, your wish.
