Hexagram 52
The Image of The Mountain, doubled

Divination 52::4 - 56

I asked Michelle from a divination concerning a group meditation of the full moon that rises tonight 9/6/2009

Moderator Michelle writes52: When "he no longer feels is body" ((W/B p.652) he's probably left it....shamanic journey anyone?

The hexagram itself, called 'Ken', the trigram of Ken doubled is Hexagram 52, the Youngest Son. .Ken represents a faithful guardian. His symbol is the faithful dog, a protector and companion or a watchman. He stands guard at the pathway to higher realms but he acts as a shepherd or helper to seekers but guards against the unworthy. Ken itself as linked mountains most likely represent Shang-gri-la itself which also is characterized as two linked mountains located in the Kunlun Shan. This mythical place (or is it mythical?) is a portal to the higher realms. Hexagram 52 is also the beginning of the Guicang.

Ken also stands for stillness, In historical terms this this commentary is probably a part of the many Buddhist references made in WB during the Han Dynasty after the arrival of Buddhist c. 100 BC. In sitting meditation. the body is still and the spine straight as in sitting meditation. By keeping the spine straight and remaining still one imitates a mountain. Keeping Still means stopping and withdrawing into seclusion in order to cultivate the spirit. It is the
is aspect of Ken that we will use in the full mooon meditation.

The Meditation: Done of the rising Full Moon

Preparation

The very preliminary preparton is to have bathed and cleaned one's altar (if any). For sitting the feet and flat on the ground as a connection to the earth. Hand and clasped, the left hand cradling the right, the tongue is lightly on the roof of the mouth which connects the complete energy cycle of the internal body. (other more advanced adepts sill use the yoga postures of sitting meditation). Beginning with the toes and then the legs, one consciously relaxes the body, all the way up to the head and face. The face often has the most cramped musculature.

To purify the body's chi, one may imagine that on that one is surrounded by golden light, when this image is clear in the mind, one begins to breath in the golden air and on the outbreath the body expels bad chi in the form of thick black smoke. This is done for as long as one thinks necessary but should last at least 2-3 minutes.

The Meditation: Example only, your own practice will vary

Preliminary:

If you have personal dieties (the I Ching certanly has the aspect) I ask them to appear to me now. I request their help in making my meditations strong. My own personal meditation goes something like this: I chant " may the whole ground be pure and smooth as lapus lazuli, may all hole beings now appear before me and give me theirguidance and assistance., Before me, on a lion throne on a lotus of sun and moon appears Buddha Shakamuni, the essence of all my kind teachers surrounded by a host of holy beings (I name many of them) I chant repetitively now, at least 7 times, "Book of Changes, book of ancient wiseom, I give thanks for your presence. I give thanks to the immortals of the Book of Changes..
[It is appropriate here to also give thanks for any of one's spiritual teachers.Any chanting, such as hymns, such as 'Amazing Grace', help open the heart chakra. The best book I have ever read on this subject is Universal Compassion, available from Tharpa Publications.

52: 4 The Heart Chakra, the Chakra of Immeasurable Compassion.

Now we bring our attention to the energy field that the I Ching has itself suggested., the heart. For a minute, focus on generating compassion for the suffering of this world. (I myself imagine my compassion for a a small cheld suffering in the hospital). It is just as image but I feel the energy growing in my heart and that is the purpose of the image. When you are one with this compassion, you then concentrate on the full moon and purifying the growing yin energy. Time to be imaginative here, this is the time of goblins, witches, demons and other things that go bump in the night. Soon we will enter the realm of Autumn and Hexagram 58, Tui. She herself in one aspect is a sorceress. The hexagram also represents Autumn itself, the time and place of death. Of course the benerficient yin energy is represented by such things as the harvest and the old southern hymn, "Bringing in the Sheaves" ios one of joy at the harvest (The 'sheaves' become a metaphor for bringing the lost souls to the Christianity.):bows:

Usually at this time, a fire is lit, even if it is only a candle, and say any words necessary to purify the yin energy, to offer peace to wandering spirits and any manifestations of the full moon that strike you as significant. Now think "I have purified this yin energy both within and without." For a minute, generate great joy at doing this. Slowly then, rise from your meditation.

Hexagram 56. Outcome hexagram

Despite the dogged reliance on words by many, one can say that in context of the divination (52:4 - 56) that in the Wanderer hexagram, the element fire is in its destructive aspect. For this reason, the lighting of the candle or any fire ne4ar the end of the meditation has a purifying effect, that of destroying the evil aspect of yin energy.
