The small world networks, together with Quantum physics, is a good concept to explain why the I Ching is able to predict the future.

What I can notice is, (given a 'rated' effort with consistent values under normal condition), what I Ching maps out about the future is in fact the routes less travel in the model of the 'small world' between the reality and the Utopia.

The best understanding so far i have with the small world networks in relation with the Oracle consultation is like matching each and every piece into the "half-complete" Puzzle Template.

The whole Puzzle Template is the WHOLE of query/solution.
The filled portion is the road we have travelled so far, something we have gone through and learn through in the past. The unfilled portion that is to be filled with the pieces - the road less travel - the predicted road that we are heading.

Quotes:
(1) ALL objects (disciplines, 'universe of discourse', whatever..) have the TEMPLATE as a source of meanings. Experiences, expectations, predictions etc, favour the development of a particular path through the template.

(2) Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is founded on the making of dichotomies and as such is guaranteed to elicit a sense of 'VALUE' regardless of any 'facts'. ... and that process alone will 'create' a TEMPLATE waiting to be filled out.

Since the brain is an integrated whole, so damage to one part is compensate-for by the corresponding sector in the other part - ie. damage to left frontal will elicit compensation by over-stimulus of the right frontal - this is shown in such areas where left frontal lobe damage elicits the right side taking over in general, as right frontal ,lobe elicits the left side taking over in general.

What this does is in the process bring out any BIASES of the controlling side - e.g. left damage brings out the right and with that depression (a more right mental state) - right damage brings out the left and with that comes mania ( a more left mental state)

The MAIN focus is on re-establishment of balance of the brain as a whole, but in doing that we bring out properties of the asymmetry of left/right.

The right is more integrating, immediate, holistic and as such allows for such savant behaviours. But the left is more single context and as such favours ONE context (e.g. savents can be good at music, or calendars etc but not both - asparger's (?) syndrome is more organised than the savants.)

Due to the structure of personality spanning left/right so persona biases will elicit differences in information processing skills - and so some can be savants - others not. ;-)

BTW note that if we CUT the connections of left/right so the left will focus on details in the form of lines, the right will be able to draw forms (e.g. a house shape) but do so only by NOT lifting the pen from the paper - IOW as one moment of drawing and so a 'whole'.

In this context note the BIAS of left to differentiating and syntax (ORDER in structural forms) and a bias of the right of integrating (connecting all together into a 'meaningful' whole but 'general' when compared to the 'dot' precision of the left)

Integration in the left is WITHIN what has been differentiated and so is strongly linear, strongly focused on 'correct order' of parts in structure. As such, there are issues when drawing wholes etc. (left is more single context, single dimension, in perspective, right is more multi-context, multi-dimensional - that said, left has a VERY clear 'picture' of things but is LOCAL and so easy to destablise (gets into issues that come with the notion of 'purity' etc)

THE MBTI AND NLP

I feel I must add a note about NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming) and it's relation to the ProActive/Reactive position, as well as Dilts' belief model which correlates well with the hexagram form and the four levels within the MBTI.

TIMELINES AND PROACTION/REACTION

The manner in which the MBTI has been mapped to the template suggests that ProActive/Reactive is mapped to the Judge/Perceive axis (and therefore relates back to Jung' rational/irrational axis). A logical ordering of this does not exist in the binary tree format (PJ-JJ-PJ-PP) but develops in the variation on a theme model (circular or left side of tree mapped to right side of tree, therefore NT+NF and SJ+SP).
Taking this into consideration, there seems to be an association with internal concepts of time and proactive/reactive behaviour.

(1)The proactive person seems to have a timeline (past to future) that runs left to right or right to left across the front of the individual.
This line may touch or pass through the individual (labelled as associated) or not (named as dissociated).

(2)The reactive seems to have a timeline bias to passing from the back to the front of the individual.
It may pass through the individual (associated) or by the side of the individual (dissociated).

(3)Most timelines are of this form or are variations, but there is a commonly found form structured half way between in the form of a V.

See the references at the end of my IChing/NLP/MBTI ref pages:

http://www.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/irefs.html

The original "Timeline" work comes out of:

James,T., & Woodsmall,W., (1988) "Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality" Meta Publications.

James,T., (1989) "The Secret of Creating Your Future" Advanced Neuro Dynamics.Hawaii.

There is an association with subjective time experience and metabolic rates and they reflect the proactive/reactive dynamic as well - but this area lacks research at the moment.
