Guys, just wanted to confirm [this is amazing!] what has been said above - I recently asked I Ching whether I should invite my friend to my place (as we had a small argument recently) and I was joyous about it because I fantasized how we will meet and have fun (I hold no grudge against her). I received HEX 1 UC... This was 3 days ago. I sent her a message inviting to my place...Today, she contacted me and said she wont be able to do it because she has no time. So yes, ''The general impression: something in potential, full of energy, but there is no way or no place for it to happen in reality. So as a prediction I might read it as 'great! brilliant! inspired! - only it won't materialise. Or not now, anyway.'' as Hilary said. Great!!

I got the same outcome for a question, but the hexagram did look very different: hex.1 with all lines changing.
'great! brilliant! inspired! - only it won't materialise. Yeah, mine neither. Too little and too much can have the same result.

I'll add my recent experience with Hex 1 unchanging. I'm sort of 'stuck' in a town I don't want to be in, stuck here until my kids are a little older. I'm seeing posts on fb from friends who live in the town I want to be in, having fun in the beautiful warm weather and live outdoor music that happens most of the year there, and feeling like life is passing me by. I know I'm doing good work here, spiritual work and also raising my kids in a healthy environment so there's a lot of good things but still, there's that feeling of life is passing me by, so I asked about the positives of what I'm doing here and how it's shaping my future for the better and get 1 uc. I take this to mean that I'm in the process of creating the life I want, through all the inner work that I'm doing right now. And there's something about being in a place or situation you don't want to be in but enduring and staying hopeful and cheerful about it because you know that you're building power every day that will eventually manifest into a brighter future.

Hexagram 1 Unchanging: Boom-An Idea Is Born-It Exists! It will remain in existence until Receptivity Responds. Don't worry, this idea will NOT go away.
Hexagram 1's lines deal with the emergence of a New Idea, and the TIMING of its emergence - that is of taking action and what receptivity or response happens as we progress along the timeline - each line advising to what kind of force and level of force of action is appropriate for the time.
With no lines moving - there is contemplation, planning, strategy, allowing the Idea to percolate into a cohesive rational thing one can DO. At line 1, it is not time to take action yet. In The Receptive's line 1, winter is coming. You can't grow your awesome crop of tomatoes by taking action to plant right now. Sorry - but it won't work. You have to plan according to feasible earthly obvious realities to bring your idea to fruition. The earth will grow those tomatoes but you can't force it to happen at line 1 right?
Unchanging simply means: This Great Idea Exists - and you CAN make it happen if you consider and plan your vision knowing what the lines entail for bringing it to reality. This is not yet the TIME to make it happen. But if you look at the situation and consider all the factors of it - IT IS TOTALLY DOABLE. Outcome of the effort is also not promised here, because that totally depends on your strategy and planning, and how Hex2 responds to implement things on an operational level. Tactics are required by the time you reach Hexagram 3, and you might not know these but you'll learn new tactics in Hex4.
Anyway. That's my personal, probably unspiritualized concept of what Hex1 unchanging means. We can pursue our creative ideas, but we aren't promised the outcome of it. And when it comes from this Hexagram, it is definitely something like a Directive from Within our Spirit, our Self - and that must be acted upon. How we do it, when we do it, where we do it, what we do with it? That's what we need to contemplate. My ex and I kissed after not seeing each other in person for 2 years. It was explosive.
Something Real Is Here and it won't go away. What is My Will? What is His Will? oo a new drama is about to unfold. How do I want things to go? Because I ultimately have the power to choose what comes next here.

I was reading this thread about 1 UN when I did a cast and got 1 UN

Isn’t that funny? :)

I suddenly got worried about getting the lowest possible mark you can ever get (got that at my evening school due to the fact that I haven’t handed in a homework yet ).

Wondered if that bad mark will be canceled when I hand in everything.

1 unchanging

Maybe I can’t impact much on the situation yet I take it as an encouragement to proceed and hand in the homework.

Will let you know what happens!

Recent/ongoing experience with hexagram 1 UC:

I had been filling in as a receptionist occasionally in the dental office of a friend for several years. The office is only open 3 days a week. She does her work without the benefit of a chair-side assistant. She had hired and lost 2 different receptionist/bookkeepers in a about 3 years (after the retirement of one that had been there for a fairly long time). My spouse retired last April, and in October Cathy's (not her real name) last receptionist left unannounced in the middle of the morning leaving a scathing letter on the desk. After a few weeks of again "filling in" I decided to ask Yi about offering to work for her on a regular basis. The answer was 1 UC .

Cathy can be a difficult boss; exacting, micro-managing, and verbally abusive when one does not come up to her standards. (She gets over it fast). On the other side of the equation, she has been successfully running her business by herself for over 30 years, has reasons why she does things the way she does, and when not in a pique is a very good person. She does not plan to be working more than a few more years, and was dreading the search for another receptionist. We are very different people, she is a straight line thinker with strong feelings about what it means to be respectful towards authority. My childhood experiences, along with coming of age in the '70s have given me a deep distrust of authority. I have Attention Deficit Disorder and some lingering PTSD issues. I can turn on a dime and it takes huge amounts of energy to stay focused, especially when I am stressed. Money is a bit tight since we are both retired, and the extra income would be lovely. Having retired twice already at 69 yo I really had not seriously considered going back to work, nor did finding a job seem in any way realistic.

In spite of my initial misgivings I decided to offer my services which were immediately and enthusiastically accepted.

Hex 1 unchanging in this situation surely did describe energy flying all over the place, lol, as you might guess given the dynamics implied in the above description.

Some benefits have included:
  • she says she wouldn't have been able to stay in practice had I not been there to help
  • keeping up with all the demands of the position has kept me mentally sharper
  • I am practicing how to deal with  in an assertive way
  • she may be learning to adapt her leadership style, heh...
  • Husband and I will be visiting kiddos half across the country later this spring
  • some major restorative dental work she did for me later (which was awesome since we have no dental insurance after husband's retirement).

It amazes me how the sages who developed Yi were able to capture the essence of so many different experiences in the Book of Changes. I think that when I don't understand a reading much of the time it's because I haven't grown enough/experienced enough to be able to see what it is describing. One can see a blue splotch on a map, be told it's water, know what water is, and still not be able to really understand or call to mind the experience of being at a lake. When that happens seems that's the time to watch and learn.

I am so grateful for Clarity and all of you!

My recent experience with unchanging Hex 1.
A friend of mine has a small garment business where she makes samples of dresses and blouses and shows them to the small boutiques. If they like the samples, they would order 10-50 or so pieces depending on the style.

She had 3 orders from this merchant that owns 3 boutiques but knowing the nature of this business, she was worried that they could cancel the orders anytime. She asked me if I could help her consulting IChing. Her question was "will I be able to ship the upcoming orders to all stores" and received 1 UC. So after all the dresses have been made and ready to ship, they told her that they wanted to cancel 1 order and another one in May that they had already made a deposit. There was a lot of negotiations going on, back and forth and they finally settled on accepting 2 orders, put 1 on hold and got 50% back on the deposit for the May order.

I think based on this, I would say 1 UC describes lots of creative possibility, energy, negotiation being exchanged and the outcome is not materialized as expected.
