That hack - what to worry about, what not to worry about

On 12th February, we got hacked - someone somehow got access to the administrative functions of Vbulletin, the forum software. By some great good fortune, they didn't make much use of their access, but in the end it was necessary to restore the forum to a state from before the hack.

Things to know...
  1. This doesn't affect your card details at all, if you've bought anything from Clarity. It can't: card details are never entered at Clarity, let alone stored here. Instead, any time you buy something here, you're passed on to a specialist site like Paypal or Worldpay before you enter any card details.
  2. It might affect your password. Probably doesn't, but it might. Please don't use the same password for Clarity as you do for any other site and if you have done so, please change your passwords. You can change your Clarity password here. (Re-using passwords is a complete recipe for disaster anyway. You can use something like Lastpass to keep track of a different one for every site.)
  3. And of course it does affect anything you posted or edited here between February 10th (quite late) and 12th (quite early), because the forum's been restored to the state it was in late on February 10th. Since we were closed for most of the 12th, we've lost not much more than a day's worth of posts. I've looked at the email notifications from the threads I was subscribed to and posted some missing messages to them as quotes; if you're moved to do the same, that would be great.
  4. I can't completely promise this won't happen again - hackers are persistent, after all, and apparently have nothing better to do with their time. But I'm taking steps to make it as difficult for them as possible.

Is a Curse appropriate ? I think so.

I wonder if these 'people', I guess what Brad would call 'fei ren' realise what forces they have unleashed by hacking. I mean the forces of the Clarity Curse.

Oh Dear.

Thank you, Hilary for letting us know!
Precisely yesterday, I was visiting the site after months, posted some replies to some threads, and they got lost in the maelstrom, I guess.
I don't like to use the word "hate" but yes, I hate these hackers!
I agree a Clarity Curse is appropriate. I have plenty of strong-willed Dragons in my birth chart, if that might help!

Maybe we shouldn't hurt them just STOP them. Afterall it doesn't help them to go on doing this....so they need to STOP.

That would be the general idea, yes. I'm doing assorted technical things that should annoy them greatly. Any well-disposed dragons are also very welcome.

Who is it who is the commander of the Cerulean Dragon, or some such? Can he be enlisted for fire-breathing purposes?

I guess Luis is the official Dragon in command! I only hope it doesn't happen again...

To Hilary,

This morning this site was being very difficult to navigate and post. I'm just alerting you in case the gremlins are at it again, or if not all of their dirty work has successfully been rectified. Tonight it's being much nicer, so maybe it was due to something web related earlier today, or perhaps your tech support have cleaned up further glitches.

All seems well from here, so probably just an intermittent web-gremlin. They live in the tubes, you know.

technology i guess played a very important role in such chaotic act but then again it is technology that refrains such deadly acts.
