How do people view these differently? What does it mean to "return" instead of "retreat"?

There is overlap of course.

One returns to the home town in 24 during the winter season.
Could be for rest and relaxation and renewal, could be to visit grandmother.

In 33 there is someone or something to retreat from. You may go home, or you may go elsewhere. But you are still going away from the subject.

Overlap, got it?

Ahh.... ok, that makes sense. A return is not necessarily a retreat then at all. It could be moving forward with action -- if the action had to do with coming home in some sense.

It could be moving forward with action --
Not action as in conquest or adventure or business in 24. line 6 shows the disastrous calamity of pressing forward when you should call it quits and return home.

24 can start with 33,
and
33 can end in 24
but not always.
So, yes, some similarities.

Life is always 64 anyway. ;)
(I think that is why it was put at the last)
