What does it mean, if anything extra, if all three lines of either the lower or upper trigram are all changing? On a related note: Is there special meaning if all six lines are changing?I'm still extremely new to this and want to learn to get the most out of my readings.

Hi Panthisia,

This is an amazingly interesting question.

The lower trigram represents: the beginning, those below, the cause.
The upper trigram represents: the ending, those above, the effect.
Furthermore, each of the 8 trigrams has a variety of meanings (see two pics attached at the end of this post).

So, depending on:
  • what the exact question is
  • what the overall answer is
  • and which one the changing trigram is...
... I can think of endless possible interpretations :eek:uch:

Saying that, and out of intense curiosity, I just went through my journal and looked at readings regarding: the first trigram only changing, and the upper trigram only changing. When the lower trigram only changed (in a wide variety of questions), there were nasty forces at work, OR, the questions were about my actions towards external people and circumstances. When the upper trigram only changed, I'm noticing that the situations were out of my hands, i.e. it was really not up to me but up to someone else. These are my observations so far. Thanks, I had never wondered about this before!
