For too long the water leaking from our pipes has been tainted.
Each drop tastes as if green algae clouds the source and dirt bears down
upon the flow.
In mid afternoon heat
mosquitoes hover above the surface and lay eggs at will

succulents steep
in grey desire to retreat.

Not only is health in jeopardy
but visitors are dismayed by the negligence

we dig new channels but are defeated
by the immensity of the task.

Invocation beyond the world remained unanswered
and the old monk
who buries the dead ceased to care

wounds must be treated regardless.

A spring bubbles to the centre where white narcissi bloom,
a cupful will quench a traveller’s thirst
and wash a baby clean, idle beauties peer at their reflection

it augurs regret to flourish while others suffer the indignity
of privation

no prognostication militates against change.

Although you are embittered by an attack from subversive elements,
finances are stretched to their limits and many exigencies press
on your attention,
make amends,
refresh our conduits and palates

drain every stinking pond.

It is in the interest of the harmony of the populace as a whole
to attend to our demands
for, without the support of even the lowliest of residents,
the capacity to deal with the terrors that beset us will be weaker.

A stagnant heart will refuse to beat in time

with a resolution

to protect its homeland.
