Job search question. I got "grace" 22 changing lines: 22.1.2.6 > 46 pushing upward

First of all, I want to say that I often visit the onlineclarity site as a "lurker", every time I consult the i ching, which is once every few months. I love this site! But today I felt it was such an important question, and I feel like I need some personal insight. I just joined 10 minutes ago. :bows:

I asked "What do I need to concentrate on in my job search? How do I get a job?"
22 with changing lines 1, 2, 6 > 46

I am an american who lives in a scandinavian country (dual citizenship). I can now speak the language pretty well. I have a bunch of relatives, but nobody has been all that helpful in my job search. I don't have very many friends here.

So far I have sent a letter & CV to about 40 jobs. I got one interview for on-call substitute work in a group home, and the interview went really well. They said they should definitely have some work for me, but who knows when. Great start, but I need more.

I could also see about getting a speech-language pathology license here. My language level is now officially good enough, but... I feel like it's not quite up to par yet to work in speech-language pathology. But I haven't even applied for it yet.

Right now I just want to work and make enough money so I can move to an apartment of my own. Anywhere in the country, or even anywhere in the EU. Not picky. Not too picky about the work, or the pay, either.

GRACE has success.
In small matters
It is favorable to undertake something.

Nine at the beginning means:
He lends grace to his toes, leaves the carriage, and walks
Six in the second place means:
Lends grace to the beard on his chin.
Nine at the top means:
Simple grace. No blame.

Any input would be very much appreciated.

I think the first line is saying "be realistic about your position and skills and don't try to overshoot the mark or pretend you're something you're not". Or else it's saying "do the legwork and don't try and take the easy way out", whatever that might mean to you.

The second line to me says "concentrate on the substance, not the appearance". So maybe it's saying to think about where your true skills lie and work with that.

The top line I think says "use form to bring out and highlight the substance".

46 says you're slowly pushing your way up towards your goal, step by step.

If I got this reading, I would maybe start by looking at my CV. Maybe it's not highlighting the right skill set for the jobs you are applying for. Or maybe you are sending it to the wrong sort of jobs.

Actually I was wondering if the first line could be even more literal... meaning I should go, literally on my feet, to the job sites? I have been considering doing that anyway, since the internet job seeking is not really making a dent.

I was really asking for some literal advice when I consulted the iching, and to me it looks like I got a little. Overall it makes sense to me, and it looks encouraging...? I hope.

Could the 2nd changing line
Six in the second place means:
Lends grace to the beard on his chin.
refer to picking up the phone and calling? The part about the chin.

5 minutes ago, I picked up the phone and called a job ad and I got a good response. Then it just dawned on me that maybe this was a bit of literal advice from the iching. What do you think?

I was hoping for some literal clues when I asked, anyway. I don't know... but I'll take this advice anyway whether or not it was the intended answer to my question.

I see 22. Grace as sort of a vague fantasy hexagram and coupled with 46. Pushing Upward it does seem to describe a situation where you are trying to make progress based on vague hopes and wishes. So
I think your interpretation that 22.1 is saying you must go to the job sites in person fits. I wouldn't have read 22.2 as guiding you to make a phone call but, hey, whatever works! I would read that line as being more about writing a resume pumping up your various achievements. 22.6 could mean your applications on line sort of drifting off into cyber space, or maybe a reference to that one job sounding positive but you left wondering if anything real will come of it? If it does I think it will be a good fit but if not well.."no blame."

So, just as an exercise in interpreting the I Ching I think 22.1.2.6 - 46 is emphasizing that getting work by applying on line is rough going - that getting out of the carriage and walking is necessary - pretty much what you've said you got from it too.

I like Legge's commentary on 22.1 : 'if the situation requires it, you can give up every luxury and indulgence'
Something you mighy have to do temporarily in a beginning phase, if money is tight.When I get this line it
usually means a few months of careful budgeting, and getting by with limited resources. Deprivation also helps to focus the mind and sharpen wits.
22.2 is about cultivating a beard. Hair-growing requires patience, maybe describing a situation of waiting patiently for fruition.
Sometimes when the bus is slow coming, three will show up together.

On a literal level :
L1 Going afoot. Self propelled.Self motivated.Employers like that.
L2 Prepare an interview 'face' ? Work on how you look and present? Prior preparation.
L6 White adornment. Simple natural elegance. Wear something white ? All white might be too good to be true.I dont trust politicians who wear white suits.
46 No cares.Southern advance.The south is associated with summer.

Hmm... interesting. I thought that 22 was about appearance as opposed to substance. but some of you are saying it means substance. http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/learn/gua/hexagrams/hexagram22.php

Today I nearly got hired, when I showed up at the job site in person. But I didn't have a drivers license. He told me to come back when I get a drivers license. But it felt encouraging anyway! 1st line could very well mean I should go to job sites, in person.

I'm leaning toward thinking that the 2nd line refers to the patience and time it takes to grow a beard. I hear growing a beard feels irritating, too.

6th line may have something to do with "white"? I don't have any white clothes. Wow, I really hope I don't get hired just because I'm white. Let's hope that's not what it means.

AS 22.2 suggests putting attention on something not really worthy of so much attention - fussing about one's beard rather than caring about their inner content - I wonder if this was referring to the driver's license requirement. I mean, did the job require you to be a licensed driver or were they just wanting you to have that superficial ornament?

The job was for english speaking sales & customer service at an RV rental, which entails some driving around. I don't know what the line 22.2 could be about.

Another thing, right now nearly everybody in scandinavian countries are on vacation. I went into some shops and asked if they needed help only to hear that I should come back and ask the boss when s/he comes back from vacation.

Alrighty then. It's not telling me which sort of job I should focus on, but it does tell me that whatever I choose, it's important to choose wisely. Also, maybe things are still in flux but soon the opportunity will arise and I need to be prepared in advance. Have I missed anything?
