It's a new year (Yayyyy!) and Happy new Year to everyone here!!
After some very strange dreams last night, I woke up frustrated at the invisible chains that seem to bind me to a person and situation I would like to consciously leave. I meditated for awhile on this and then decided to ask the IC for insight.
Question: Why do I remain chained to this situation/relationship with D in spite of all my efforts to break free?
Answer: Hexagram 1, line 5, changing to 14.

There are a few wonderful threads on this combination already and I've read them... and GOSH, this sounds like a fantastically powerful and wonderful "thing", experience, situation, etc...so why would it be the answer here? What in the world is the message here in this situation? Please help me interpret/decipher!!

This line does seem somehow "magical", since the importance that is placed on the image of the dragon is well known, and of course everyone wants (perhaps secretly) to be the dragon at least once in awhile. Depending on your situation, this could be exciting news. However, I don't see this as referring to a relationship issue, more probably you could be involved in some kind of creative project and the Yi is giving a very encouraging message. An excellent reading to start the New Year!

If you've been looking in the archives then I'm surprised if you haven't seen the discussion about Bradford's translation - Bradford himself comments on it....

To paraphrase, what he is saying is that the dragon flies high but the real skill is in the landing... great ideas are lofty things but they remain just that unless you bring them down to earth and put them into practice.

Bradford is a translator and he points out that there is a subtle reference to the dragon being not much different from the little bird in Hex 62 - the dragon just has a bigger universe to fly in.

It is a comment on the nature of greatness, not being great in yourself, but having the courage to enter greater realities and contexts.

I believe Lucia is spot on.

Even using Wilhelm's "It furthers one to see the great man", the emphasis is on to see, or to recognize what greatness means in this case. It isn't a question of ability (14) but of exercising available power. Once you own the power to change it, you may decide you'd rather keep it. But at least you know it's because it's what you want and choose.

I think of 1.5 as a flock of birds who have come together as a team. They fly better together than apart. However, at times team members have a falling out and no longer wish to fly together. BUT because they are first and foremost team-mates they continue to support each other in their flight UNTIL THEY CAN FIND A SAFE LANDING.

I see this as meaning you and your friend have a karmic agreement of some sort mutual support at this time. When you can separate gently you will part. YOU may be ready to part now, but maybe he isn't. See what you can do to promote the partners sense of security as you prepare to move on. Don't just pull the rug out from under him - you could never do that and make it last.

As you let him down gently you just may find common ground!

Thank you

Thank you all so much for helping me with this one. Rosada, what you've said especially helps explain the continuation in spite of my efforts and helps me to see it in a different light. I think forcing the issue has only been making it worse and somehow drawing us closer, which has led to horrible frustration for me...but I realize that perhaps my attitude toward this has been selfish and I needed to understand it from the bigger perspective.
Thank you very much!!:bows:
