7 changing to 19

Hi, I'm really new here...discorered the I-Ching through a friend and was amazed to find that my first reading was really spot on. Got hooked and here I am.

I asked a question regarding what results a procedure would have and got 7 changing to 19...I interpreted as positive. It seems I was wrong and due to some blood work this procedure has now been cancelled. Was I wrong in my interpretation?? Maybe it wasn't that simple Any ideas?

Not sure exactly what you asked the I Ching or how you interpreted the answer Tia.
I'm thinking you asked,
What results will the procedure have? and you received 7.1.

The first line of a hexagram often refers to conditions before the start of the situation. The first line of hex.7 seems to be refering to conditions that exist and must be delt with before you can have the procedure. In that case, perhaps we can interpret

7.1
An army must set forth in proper order.
If the order is not good, misfortune threatens.

as meaning there was a problem, something not in good order, before you even had the procedure. So would that make sence in your situation? Did the blood work show that something was not in good order and that was why the procedure was cancelled?

In interpreting the I Ching, the lines often are more important than the Judgement or the Image. So if the hexagram Judgement says good fortune but the line says problems then you must solve problems before the good fortune can kick in.

it makes perfect sense...and yes, the blood work showed something was not in order that's why the procedure was cancelled. I just wish the results are different next month otherwise

Hex 7.1 Warns you not to get carried away with your enthusiasm, everything must be in order or there will be problems, so no procedure but Hex 19 says next time should be okay.

Considering that 19 follows 18, Work on What Has Been Spoiled, it makes great sence that 19 is very optimistic for next month provided you have learned your lesson and do whatever you need to do to put things in good order.
I say, "learned your lesson" because 19 refers to teaching and learning and particularly the judgement's referance to "When the eigth month comes there will be misfortune" meaning problems we have experienced in the past can come up again but now we've learned how to handle them, and so..

willowfox~I certainly hope that next time things will be alright despite the fact that the bloodwork showed I may never be able to fulfil my dream of having a baby (this is what the procedure was about-been 'trying' for some years now)

That right there is an interesting question, tia. Hexagram 4 specifically counsels against asking new questions until we have throughly understood and followed through on the advice we are given in the first answer.

I take it the blood work test you are taking next month is simply to confirm what was shown in the first test? Hmm, bummer. I was thinking the blood work just showed you needed to take more vitamins or something before going forward and that having learned this "lesson" you would be able to take vitamins or do something to change things, but now it just sounds like your only hope is if the first test somehow proves to have been wrong? If you were to consult the I Ching further about this matter I'm not sure the question to be asked should be "What is the lesson?" I think maybe something along the lines of "What can I do to improve the situation?" I dunno, maybe someone else here has an idea for a useful follow up question.

Well, I see Hex 19 as beneficial and it is linked to the middle of January, so time will tell if things take a turn for the better or not.

Well, I am intrigued by the i-ching and want to learn more so I followed rosada's suggestion and asked the question 'what can I do to improve the situation?' I got 39.1-63, and according to the things I've read it seems, like willowfox also pointed out, that I need to let it go and let time and nature take its course. I will just have to remember that the result will be positive whether I get a child or not, right?
