I wanted to share this pair of readings with you all partly for any insight but mostly because I thought the resulting hexagrams are interesting. I will be able to update this at the beginning of Feb with the outcome.

I've applied for a new job which is a complete career change for me. I'm still waiting to hear if I've got an interview but the application closing date hasn't passed yet.

I asked I Ching 2 questions...
What barriers are against me in securing this job? 42.2.3.4.5>14
Increase to Possession in great measure

What positive forces are favouring me? 41.3.4>14
Decrease to Possesion in great measure.

Taking the names of the hexagrams quite literally, I think I'd have preferred the responses to be with the opposing questions

I think it is interesting that I have 14 as the resultant hexagram for opposite questions.

Quoting from LiSe...

There is a higher purpose behind your abilities, behind all gifts from Heaven. And there is a desire to respond to that higher purpose. Talents derive their value from the target they are used for.
If you use every talent you have as best you can, then you will attract the blessings from Heaven. Don’t expect Heaven to carry you though, its gifts come with the condition to use them and also use them free from egoism. The talents for living and loving are the really big ones. But small ones can also achieve a lot.

Maybe this is suggesting that the career move is not for me... I really really want this though. What do you guys think?

Your very good work record. You've kept your nose to the grindstone.

This appears to me to be a situation of "blessed if you do, blessed if you do not." I don't see any problem here regardless. The barriers against you are... "no barriers." The forces that favor you are..."he finds a companion." I would have no fear in this situation. Line two says, Someone does indeed increase him." The commentary says, "the thing for which he strives, comes of itself."

I think it is going to work out for you.

I want to look on this positively I really do. Thank you for your insights, I appreciate your input. I will know the outcome of this in a couple of weeks so I'll give an update.

The frustration of not knowing is setting me on edge. I do still have a job if this doesn't work out but I do feel I'm on the wrong track with my career direction. I'll be happy if I get just an interview, I think just getting a flat 'no' from this company based only on my application form will upset me. At least if they give me an interview and I'm not successful I'll know that I was at least considered.
I''ve got my fingers crossed that this will be a new direction for me as I feel a bit stale at the moment.

Well, here is the update...

I got an email a few days back saying that I hadn't been shortlisted and due to the large number of applicants, no feedback will be available. I won't be able to compare my first reading with what actually did work against me now.

Not only do I feel really disappointed, I have no way of finding out what let me down on my application form. I'll keep my eyes open for similar opportunities but the feedback certainly would have been useful. Thanks again for your input.

My initial reaction to the castings wasn't in my favour but I can see why others interpreted them with a more positive outlook. Maybe this goes to show how valuable our own initial reactions and gut instincts are when interpreting the yi.

Mental note to myself... 'trust intuition'.

I am sorry this didn't work out for you. I do feel bad about misreading this. My readings are usually quite correct. I think I may have made a mistake in that the way the questions were worded; the hexagram for increase was received with the forces against you, The hexagram decrease was received in the reading for the forces for you. Hexagram fourteen was received as the relating hexagram in both cases. It seems that there is good fortune in this, just not in the way you or I expected. I feel that you are really better off in ways you are not yet or may never be aware of. It may have not really been the best thing for you.

Once again I am really sorry about your disappointment.

Gene, don't feel bad about misreading this. All interpretations come with a health warning anyway and I had put it out there for anybody to say anything they like about it.

I do find it interesting that although I can see the positive side of these hexagrams that my initial reaction was in the end reliable. Your interpretation made sense and even though I didn't get an interview, I have had fresh experience with job applications.

As you say, maybe this is for the best and there are influences that I do not yet know about. I've picked myself up and dusted myself down... I'm fortunate that I am employed and I am not unhappy there, just feeling a little stale. I'll keep my eyes open for other opportunities but I'm comfortable where I am.

Thanks again for taking time to interpret
