Have you guys ever noticed, when casting an hexagram, that once one gets to the 5th line and is preparing to draw the 6th, if you think, "oh, its gonna come out ... whatever hexagram", it ALWAYS ends up the other way round?
Ive had numerous of this situations, when say, by the 5th I thought: "oh, its #52", and then it ends up #15. like by antecipating the last line I caused it to turn otherwise, goring my expectations. This happens cause I know the hex lines by heart, so by the 5th line I know there are only two possibilities for the outcome (actually this tampering of the process by the mind conscious volition must be present from the 1st line, but its only apparent when the possibilities decrease to a manageable number). But what is odd is that 99% of the times I get the line Im NOT expecting, like the mind has some role on it, even if of a reverse polarity (which makes me think the next time I want to influence the odds of something, I must focus on the opposite of what I want it to come out).
This has become so obvious that I try not to think of the hexagram until the very end, just remembering the numbers and trying not to see the lines.
Another interesting thing is that the actual hexagram that comes out always describes the situation right, even if I was thinking "why this X hexagram? obviously Y was what was intended".
It seems the Yi knows it better and derives a special pleasure out of tricking our expectations.

Interesting, though, how do you go about it, you "wish" for that line? cause for me "wishing" even subconscious) seems to prevent it

I think Candid's experience with this is remarkable. He's taken to thinking what the hexagram for the day will be, and then casting, and receiving it more often than not.

Me? If I feel as if I'm 'guessing', I'm wrong; certainly I don't think I ever got the hexagram I wanted! When I know in advance what's coming (generally after line 3 or so), I'm usually thinking 'oh no, no way can this possibly be going to be...' Then, it is.

Pedro, I just wish i didn't do it. Sometimes I'm already interpreting the answer before I've even finished casting. Sometimes i envy newcomers to I Ching - they don't have this anticipation thing.

yes, I see what you mean. By the time we start thinking what the outcome will be, we're tampering with the process. But then arent we tampering all along? I mean, it is the mind that makes the coins come out so and so... or at least thats my bet.
But ideally, and no newcomer can do that, I think the ultimate goal of the Yi is to reach a state in which when confronted with any situation you think "this is "... There's no need to cast hexagrams, then, just live by the Yi
