I have a feeling that someone I know has knowledge about a particular matter which interests me greatly. Although she has not volunteered any information I have considered asking her about it. My question would be something along the lines of "How are you involved in this? What do you know?"

I decided to ask the Yi about it and my question was phrased,

"What do I need to know about asking her about this matter?'

Answer 50.2.3.4.5.6 to 8

Given the number of moving lines I'm going to look at the hexagram as a whole. I'd say that it looks positive and that the Yi is telling me that this is a big step, a transformative experience.

Do you think this is the case? Does it seem positive to you?

It suggests that you ask her as soon as possible.

Hexagram pictures: Cauldron, Chariot Returning

Cauldron suggests food; Chariot Returning, intimate association.

Why not invite the person to lunch and explain your interest to her?

Those are a lot of moving lines, the only one you didn't get was 50.1. Usually lots of moving lines indicate to me that I'm feeling anxious about the issue and in a state of flux, overthinking it and I don't know which action to take. Or sometimes it indicates that there's a lot to be done before results can be seen. 50 in general seems to me to be about slow transformation, which happens in its own time, as its meant to and when its meant to. It makes me think of the temperance card in tarot...mixing things together in their right amounts, waiting patiently for it to cook, tending to it so that it's not overcooked or undercooked. When it's come up for me it's seemed quite mysterious, as if there's a lot more depth to something than I think, something almost spiritual. I also get a sense of rightness when it's come up for me, that what I'm striving for is totally worth it. Hexagram 8 kind of alludes me in its meaning. I'm not sure if it's about action as such, maybe more about enduring with whatever the situation is. I'm not sure what your situation is here or what the matter is that you're wanting to find out about. I think from this reading it would be ok to ask? Not really sure exactly what 50 and 8 are saying about asking this person. I guess just be tactful in the way you ask this person whatever it is you want to ask them about? Be nice in the way you ask and don't interrogate them, perhaps just explain to them simply and calmly what you want to know and why. If you ask and it still doesn't clear things up, well at least you know you gave it a shot and tried to find something out.
