Stephen Karcher webinar: progress report on the recording

The webinar with Stephen Karcher took place on the 26th, and was a huge success. (Granted my computer was not by any stretch of the imagination a huge success, but things carried on extremely well without me for the first five or ten minutes.)

There was an endless stream of intelligent questions from those present (from across Europe and the US), and Stephen stayed and talked with us for two and a half hours about such things as…

  • ming, the mandate of heaven, what it means for us and whether/how we might change it
  • the role of the relating hexagram
  • the ‘synchronistic effect of inner work’
  • recommended translations… how many to use?
  • conflicting changing lines
  • heng, ‘fixing the omen’
  • the role of myth in divination – and individuation
  • how to phrase questions
  • how to start to approach and make sense of a reading
  • online casting (reliable?)
  • the sixteen token method
  • understanding hexagrams as pairs
  • crossline omens
  • chaos theory

…!
Unsurprisingly, I had quite a few enthusiastic emails afterwards.

People have been asking me about the recording. I am working on it, but it’s taking a whole lot longer than I’d anticipated to sort out. Eventually, though, there will be a ‘video’ of the whole thing for you: slides, spoken conversation and text chat. I’ll add some pdf files with diagrams to explain some of the concepts and methods Stephen talked about, and put the whole thing in a download area. This will be free for everyone who came.

Since the files will be a bit big to download if you have a dial-up connection, I’ll also make them available for sale on CD ROM. And I am thinking about either doing a transcript myself or getting one done, if enough people would be interested in buying it. (Would you? Then please post a comment!)

  1. Dear Hillary,

Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend the Stephen Karcher Webinar. Nevertheless, I’m interested in the webinar transcription.

Let me know when your job (excellent, as always!) would be ready.

Thanks for your committment with the Yi and with all of us. The Yi has profoundly changed my life.

    Warm regards,

    Daniel

  2. Very interested in the transcription! Among the many reasons: I am using a Mac and thus couldn’t take part in the webinar so I hope the transcription will be compatible with the “rest of us”. Thank you for your excellent job.

  3. Dear Hilary,

I would love to get some downloadable version or CD ROM of Stephen
Karcher’s Webinar, as I could not attend on that day.
I wonder how much they end up costing.

It is wonderful of you doing this whole event!!

    Much warmth,
    Yuko

  4. Yes – if I do a transcript, it’ll be pdf, which can be read on all computers. The downloadable recordings should also come in a Mac-compatible version, all being well. But I won’t be making a special Mac-only CD, I’m afraid.

  5. I now have high-speed internet, which, as you know Hilary, is a big change for me, since I had the slowest dialup connection in the world until recently. So I would be more interested in the recordings, preferably for Mac. My computer, by the way, recently started doing the same thing yours has been doing — freezing up at random, though mine was doing it so frequently that it was virtually unusable. After spending dozens of hours trying to fix it, my solution was to get a Mac instead. 🙂

The webinar sounds like it was really fantastic, so I’m looking forward to the recording!

  6. Hello Hilary.

Like the folks who have already posted I was, much to my regret, unable to attend the webinar, and whilst I will certainly be buying the CD ROM, I would also very much like a transcript to mull over at leisure, please.

I must add my congratulations to you, Hilary, on arranging this webinar with Stephen Karcher. A real milestone achievement in the wonderful service which you kindly provide for us.

With profound thanks and very best wishes,

    Laurie

  7. Thanks, Dr Bob, but no need: you bought a ticket, didn’t you? So the recording is free… and the transcript too, when I get it done. (Progress report: recordings just about ready to go, just testing that the pdfs with the layout etc print reasonably OK, transcript – um, I’ve done the first 13 minutes…)

  8. Dear Hilary,

Unfortuantely I was unable to attend the webinar even though I was so interested in hearing the answers to all these interesting questions.
Plse advise price of cd rom and how to get it in Europe and future dates of webinars…

Thanks so much for keeping me posted so accurately about news,

    Kind regards,
    pat

  9. Dear Hilary,
I was unable too to attend the webinar, however I’m interested in a recording, if possible in a format suitable also for non-windows computer.
    No problem for big downloads.

    Warm regards,
    Paolo

  10. I would love to get hold of the transcripts Hilary. How much would it cost? Pl keep us posted.

    Thanks and god bless

  11. Hi Sean,
If you check your email, you should find I’ve already sent you the login details to download the recording and transcript, a few days ago. I will email them to you privately again 🙂
