Looking at both the reading and the Washington Post article linked to from there, I wonder whether the objective in rehabilitating Hu Yaobang might not simply be to expand the current leader’s support base to include the reformists. The relating hexagram, Stripping Away, might reflect a longer-term intention to expend less energy in maintaining official versions of ‘history’. But I am very much at the level of ‘wondering’ about this – not at all sure.
