Spending as a prayer? and Great Possession

I came across this lovely article –

The Abundance Site: Spending as a prayer?

– and thought at once of Hexagram 14, Great Possession. The character ‘possess’, which also just means ‘there is’, shows an outstretched hand, holding meat. Owning? Offering? Is there a difference?

I think the small ritual suggested at the Abundance Site could be a way to practise Great Possession whenever Yi offers it as advice. And we could use something similar for all kinds of ‘expenditure’ of time, energy and self.

  1. Thanks for referencing my article I am glad you enjoyed it. I know little of I Ching but am enjoying your insights. I feel we never “own” anything but rather that we make the required exchanges (offerings) that permit us to become caretakers (‘givers?) of our possessions. Owning a lot of stuff brings with it a lot of responsibility, hence the trend towards downsizing – do we want many things requiring our care or ample time to care for what for what we truly love?
