“Eva Sutton and Sarah Hart constructed an installation called “Chance Transmission: An I Ching Reading with Two Small Robots.” This performative piece generates and reads a visitor’s I Ching fortune, activated by the person’s wave of the hand over an object on the podium.
“The piece first projects a simulated throw of yarrow sticks on the floor, which a small, light-sensing robot “reads.” The robot then transmits its reading via infrared to a second robot equipped with a bamboo brush with which it paints out the I Ching hexagram. A synthetic female voice then reads out the corresponding interpretation. The installation will perform its process at 1 p.m. Sunday, before the 2 to 4 p.m. opening reception.”
Wonder what reading they’ll get…?
