Well, hello Clarity community,

Whatever your feelings are about J.K. Rowling's politics here is something interesting. Her current incarnation as a writer, using the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith in her "Cormoran Strike" series, will release a seventh book titled "The Running Grave" where all the epigraphs (Rowling loves using epigraphs at the beginning of all her chapters in the series) will come from the Yijing. I suppose the plot will also contain references to it. I came to pay attention to the series in general when all the buzz about the Yijing epigraphs started and I must say that, three books into it, I enjoy the series so far.

Here is a good compilation from the "Hogwarts Professor" fan site.

Cheers,

I recently read the book, along with others in the series. I enjoyed it. She's a good grownup mystery writer and I like her two main characters.

But if you're only considering reading the book because of its Yijing content, don't. The epigraphs were snippets of Wilhelm without context. At times I had to rely on text search to figure out what hex/line was being quoted. And the source of each snippet didn't seem pertinent to the following chapters, just the snippets themselves. Moreover, at the risk of spoiling the plot, the interested character isn't an actual diviner, just someone with a theatrical and repulsive mind control agenda.

All true. When I posted the novelty of learning the book was coming I was excited the Yijing would have some good exposure. There was a lot of speculation about its use leading up to the release of the book. After it came out and read it, and even though I liked it, if anything, the novel appears to be detrimental to the Yijing because, as Andrea pointed out, it was used by one of the nemesis in it to justify her actions. Not to mention that any efforts to select and correlate the epigraphs with the content of each chapter was, at best, farfetched. Personally, I was disappointed.

Back in November/23 I started a blog post about all the instances and mentions of the Yijing in the book. I gave up because, like I said in my previous post, I was disappointed with the use of Yi given in the book. But, if anyone is interested, here are all the instances I fished out of my Kindle:

Notes and highlights for
