Similarly my view of 36.4 is different to yours. Rather than the situation being hopeless I relate to it being the start of new hope as you are directed to 'leave your existing dwelling place'. I guess it's all about whether you are a glass half empty or a glass half full kind of person!

I don't know what this reading means but I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean that as that would be a very dead end communication


Have you got a translation of the words of the I Ching or are you using someone's ropey commentary?


What would be the point of the I Ching saying a man would come into your life but it would be hopeless and end? If it was going to be hopeless and end what would be the point of even starting it? I don't think the I Ching would say anything so pointless as telling you a man would come into your life but it would be hopeless and end.

36.4 shows a hopeless situation that someone is better to leave behind I think....

No it doesn't mean that, someone decided it meant it that in a commentary but that isn't what Yi says. Yi says

'Entering into the left belly,
Catching the heart of brightness hiding.
Moving to go out of the gate from the courtyard.'

Nothing whatsoever about a hopeless situation and also I have never ever found that particular commentary, can't recall whose it is, to have any relevance at all. 36.4 is almost a line of espionage, like going into enemy territory, perceiving what's really going on there and getting out again undetected. How might that apply to your question? I can't imagine...

Generally the reading seems to me to be about saving yourself, getting out from a bad situation. It could be that is what you need to do in order for relationships to flourish.

No, it doesn't mean that. Remember Yi is trying to help you as a whole human being, it isn't handing out random silly things like telling you you will meet someone and then it will be hopeless. It would be harmful and untrue to ever tell anyone such a thing. 32 isn't 'the future' but where you are now. It looks like you can manage to save yourself without disrupting your life too much, your way of life can remain steady (32) Or maybe a guy will come along and rescue you (line 2) but it's best not to bank on it and to focus on saving yourself.
