I met someone recently that I felt a remarkable connection with. I really haven't felt this way since I was fifteen, falling in love for the first time. The issue is that our relationship is a terrible idea because of our work and the impact it would have on both of our careers if it were to go south. We decided to cool it off, although the feelings are mutual. Feeling conflicted, I turned to my favorite source of making everything even more confusing, the I Ching.

The intent was to see whether my gut feeling of just "going for it" will backfire or I should give our feelings some time to settle and let the situation play out in a more organic way without me taking action.

Hi berkut

I would read this answer like this:
Deciding whether to increase (42) or to cut off (23) the impulse to go for this relation, you can have confidence in your heart (line 5) and undertake this great deed (line 1). Interestingly, James DeKorne says about line 42.1: "Go for it!"
