Hello British citizens and Europeans...

I don't really want to "use" Hilary's forum to any great extent for my personal quest... for my own enlightenment of things global. And I certainly don't want to start heated political arguments here or encourage namecalling in the guise of free speech. However, because our media naturally tends to center on US issues and not UK government or other world governments, I don't have much knowledge of George Galloway. And, because this forum has a good deal European and British readers, I decided, as a part of my quest, to put out a call for help here.

Everything George Galloway was quoted as saying very effectively and powerfully in this cnn.com article -- http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/05/18/oil.food/index.html confirms and reflects my observations and fear about the modus operandi of the current US administration. I'm trying to understand the man and the situation, and all I really know so far is that he can be a great orator.

Is he really "wallowing in mud" as this little handful of senators says he is, or are they trying to drag him through the mud to try to discredit him for being an outspoken opponent to the war in Iraq as he says they are? I'd like to know his voting record, his public image, how you feel about how he's conducted him as a public servant and whatever else you can offer to help me see the picture here more clearly. So...

Btw, I just want to add that, at this point in time, this accusation against Galloway appears to me to be part of an orchestrated and choreographed maneuver to bring about the "reform" (or takeover) of the United Nations that this US Administration wants to effect.

I don't believe it's all that coincidental that they're making these accusations AND trying to get Kofi Annan to step down as Secretary General of the UN "because of the scandal" at the same time they're trying to get John Bolton, an outspoken critic of the UN and multilateral decision making, appointed as ambassador to the UN.
