It seems there are two concepts for the new forum that came from our first meeting:

One is, to create an open I Ching forum that gathers the many who hide in the shadows, who feel more comfortable speaking and listening than typing and reading. Its more relaxed in some ways, and more in touch on a personal level. Basically its expanding participation with those from this site.

The other is, provide venues to attract not just those who participate in this forum, but a broader scope of people and possibly interests. This could be in the form of lectures, demonstrations, managed workshops, or anything else we haven?t yet thought of.

Any input you have to offer is appreciated, particularly regarding the topics that would interest you most.

Thanks

Thanks, Candid! Just a quick note before diving back to work - if anyone wants to send specific questions you'd like to have answered in future gatherings, without posting them here, then there is a suggestions form available. A 'total beginners' session (or three...), guaranteed jargon-free, is definitely on the cards. I mean in the stalks.

Just one really simple question: what is a good day of the week for you to come?

To investigate topics that might be interesting for future Clarity-sponsored audio discussions or presentations, I thought any topic was a possibility that related to the current practice of divination in general. So I went to my local public library and found a book called ?The Complete Idiot?s Guide to Divining the Future? by Laura Scott and Mary Kay Linge (2003). The ?Complete Idiot?s Guide? series is far from consistently wonderful, but it does claim to cover the ground. Here is a brief list of topics (in chronological order) the authors consider important for understanding divination today:

Destiny, free will, intuition, the intuitive arts, awareness, divine inspiration, astrology, numerology, tarot, runes, palmistry, psychic ability, clairaudience, clairsentience, clairvoyance, telepathy, visualization, journaling, meditation, relaxation techniques, grounding, centering, soul work (destiny, mission, purpose), personal quest, career and prosperity goals, relationships, health and wellness, angel cards, yoga, bodywork, reiki, aura reading, time, the future, energy, charkas, feng shui, chi, pranayama, acupuncture, life force, integrative medicine, rules of evidence, quantification, proof, measurement, objective and subjective evidence, science and technology, brain waves, vital signs, remote viewing, esp, conscious breathing, filters and focus, ritual, physical fitness, emotional nurturing, spiritual evolution, diet, guided imagery, handwriting analysis and graphology, spontaneous writing, prayer, balance, energy flow and blockages, health intuitives, shamanism, subtle bodies, Edgar Cayce, mindfulness, Tibetan bowls and bells, color energy, vibrational energy, crystals, Bach flower essences, medicine wheels, magnetism, minerals, labyrinth walking, mandalas, cell memory, premonitions, emotions, joyous movement, dreamwork, lucid dreaming, dream visitations, dream symbolism, astral bodies, animal totems, the silver cord, NDE (near death experience), NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), spirit guides, guided meditation, biofeedback, akashic records, karma, reincarnation, past life readings, past life regression, synchronicity, coincidence, empowerment, synergy, gratitude, limitlessness, linear thinking, natal charts, self-knowledge, fate, evolution.

All this in 300 pages! Does any of this stuff, which is apparently central to modern divination, relate to the Yi? What do you think?

Without pretending for a moment that I *know* - I'll estimate on some of these. For the sake of brevity (heh) I'll leave out "maybes", "don't knows", and things that I don't know the definition of:

free will - yes
intuition - yes
divine inspiration - probably
tarot- probably
meditation, guided meditation - definitely for some users
centering - probably
soul work (destiny, mission, purpose) - probably
personal quest - if you ask
career and prosperity goals - if you ask
relationships - if you ask
health and wellness, physical fitness, diet - if you ask
time - yes
the future - yes
energy - probably, depending on what you mean
chi - probably
acupuncture - probably indirectly
rules of evidence - indirectly bears on this issue
objective and subjective evidence - indirectly bears on this issue
science and technology - if you ask
emotional nurturing - definitely for some users
spiritual evolution - I think so
prayer - probably for some users
shamanism - definitely for some users
premonitions - probably for some users
dreamwork, lucid dreaming, dream visitations, dream symbolism - definitely for some users (hehe, Val, you reading this?)
spirit guides - definitely for some users
akashic records, karma, reincarnation, past life readings, past life regression - probably for some users
synchronicity, coincidence, synergy - definitely for some users
empowerment - yes
gratitude - yes, thank you
self-knowledge - yes
fate - probably

Not sure what I've accomplished here aside from some brain-finger busy work :) , but there's my list...

"If useless thoughts do not
Cloud your mind,
Each day is the best of your life."

I think I'll go take a walk now...

Hooray! Someone found the page! And a glorious list - I especially like the "quantification, proof, measurement, objective and subjective evidence" section nestling in there happily.

There would have been another webinar by now, had the email system at the site not gone haywire exactly when I wanted to send out email about it. That left it a bit late... so things got pushed back by another week or two (depending on when we're next going to see David's mum...). I will plug the notification list in the newsletter I'm working on now, and hopefully send out notice of a general 'I Ching related questions' session soon after.
