Hi all-
Is anyone else watching this show? It's on the Discovery Channel, Tuesday & Friday evenings.
To my mind it's relevant to any effort we make in trying to understand the Early Zhou authors of the Yi, and shows anthropology the way it should be done - by getting to know the people instead of standing back and projecting our objectivities on them.
Much of the conflicts in modern Yi scholarship concern the relative importance of cultural evolution on a people's understanding of normal human behavior and social interaction. The academics will tend to argue that less modern cultures are severely impoverished in these areas, relative to us, and extremely superstition ridden in most aspects of life. I have argued that we have a great deal more in common, in these areas at least, and that these are the very areas of life that the Zhouyi is most concerned with.
I think this show is a delight. The host has some real courage - he truly dares to cross the great stream, in the sense that it's used in Gua 13.

Is it called ‘Going Tribal’ or ‘Tribe’

There a new show called Tribe just started on Discovery in Oz with a guy called Greg Parry, an ex marine or something living with various remote peoples who have had little contact with the outside world. I missed the first episode but looking forward to the next with the Kombai in West Papua. I wouldn’t mind joining a “circle of wild eyed hominids” myself for a while !

By the way I’m enjoying you’re take no prisoners, spit in your eye approach.

Hiya

If it is 'Tribe' it is a really in depth 'investigation' into different cultures done with an enormous amount of trust I think. It has been on here in the UK and I personally found the babongo tribe and their way of shamanism very interesting.

For those who might not have seen it or may not have discovery you can watch all the episodes through the bbc website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/tribe/index.shtml

Very insightfull

Either there's 2 series ...

or it's just been renamed in Australia for some reason. I looked on the discovery web site and there a show with the same guy called Going Tribal, but in my TV guide there a series called Tribe, I don't know what the deal is.

I don't think I can make it into the bush this weekend to find a shaman but I might head into town and see if I can find someone to blow powered mushrooms up my nose, is that the next best thing ?

9.1.2 -> 53

I've been raising this small beast for a while now, perhaps it's time it left home, maybe one more small digressions.

Oh my!

Well I'm not sure if the effects are exactly the same!

9.1.2 - 53

Some view it as very healing as in line 1 (from Lise's site). Maybe just make sure you can come back (line 2)?

But others may see it differently.
