Hexagram 49.6 > 13 in response to question about attending a gathering of healers

Hi Everyone -

I am feeling into whether or not to attend a gathering of healers in December as both a participant and presenter. My specific question was: "What does the I-Ching have to say about my going to this conference?"

I received 49.6 > 13 in response.

I feel what this hexagram and line is saying to me is that I would not necessarily experience a radical transformation as a result of going... That the transformation has already happened... The conference is more of a detail.,. Also, with the relating hexagram as 13, I feel that this is really about my going to be with like-minded people.

My interpretation feels quite simplistic!

Does anyone out there have any deeper insight?

I think I agree with how you see it.

I wonder how much it is saying for you to be aware of what are appearances. You don't have to demonstrate who you are to anyone now so if you were going in order to let your presence be known I feel Yi is saying that isn't really necessary, you don't need to prove yourself in any way.

That said it is good to mingle with other healers as it can be solitary work, but don't feel you need to present a certain front, you can just be yourself

Note on leopards; leopards are masters of the art of hiding, they are the most elusive of cats. Even leopard cubs instinctively know how to hide for long periods of time by themselves if in danger. Their survival relies more on disappearing from view, melting into the scenery, than bigger cats. Also although smaller and less powerful than tigers they are more versatile. They are better climbers than tigers and often carry their kill up into the trees to safeguard it from bigger cats taking it. They are also far more at home in the water than tigers. So perhaps to change like a leopard rather than a tiger is to be more subtle, more invisible, more versatile. Leopards ensure survival by going 'under the radar' of potential opposition. (Trojina)

So that is comparing the difference between 49.5 and 49.6. The changes in 49.5 are like a tiger and in 49.6 like a panther or leopard. A leopard is a panther with spots...or a panther is a leopard without them. So in relation to this healing gathering how is it good to be like a panther ?

Thank you, Trojina for your thoughtful response. When I received the hexagram and line from Yi, I felt much the same as you articulate... If I attend the gathering, I feel that it needs to be about my going to be with "Concording People" rather than to "Make an appearance". I see that part of why I want to go is to "see and be seen." So, 49.6 gives me pause. I am now standing back and acknowledging that perhaps my wanting to go is coming from an "ego" place.... to prove myself... Asking myself now, what it may feel like to not "prove myself" - to stay behind -

But then hexagram 13 - all to do with people... that tension between being with others and being a leopard comes into full view with this reading ...

And yet,

I am feeling more like the leopard...I don't need to be out there... I love the idea of being more subtle, and in hiding... it jibes with where I'm at these days...

One more thought...it's always worth considering what a cast isn't saying to get more clarity. I don't think the cast is saying "Do not go" because I think you would have had another answer if that was the case so do go if you feel it will be supportive or socially pleasant. It is important for all therapists who do one to one work to have a network of support, and yes I think this is the 13, the community of healers. But healers aren't saints and there are factions and disagreements even amongst healers, so if you go and there are things you don't really agree with the cast seems to be saying you are doing okay with your progress and can go under the radar.

I think here you have to go very much with your own sense of this and whether you prefer to go or not and consider, as you say, why you are going. It's an interesting answer and one to carry in your pocket for a while I think just to see what comes up.

You said you were going to do a presentation, and this cast doesn't discourage that, it only says you needn't try too hard perhaps ?

Oh and perhaps you have a leopard skin print dress or shirt to wear to the occasion to remind you of the reading

This is so helpful. I am relatively new to the I-Ching, having started to consult it regularly only in the past year or two. I am an experienced and professional Tarot practitioner, but my engagement with Yi over these past two years has been profound... This piece of wisdom from you feels that it has unlocked a door for me. Thank you.

Your reading/interpretation of 49.6 > 13 has really resonated and I've learned a great deal from your approach to the cast, and the specific line.
