If anyone has anything to add about this interpretation it would be well received and appreciated :)

Hexagram 56, Travelling
56.gif

Key Questions

What do you bring with you into each new situation?
What does this place ask of you?

Oracle

'Traveller, creating small success.
Travelling, constancy brings good fortune.'

The traveller is on a journey of his own, just passing through this place and staying for a while. To be the traveller means you are not at home here – you know you don't belong. Also, you have a strong personal direction: wherever you find yourself for now, you know it does not define you. As the traveller, you might be like King Hai, an early leader of the Shang. His people were nomads, who stopped to pasture their animals at a place called Yi ('Change'). They were welcomed by the local people – until Hai danced for their ruler and seduced his wife. Then the Yi ruler had Hai executed and took his herds, and his people fled.

Since you are only passing through, your creative involvement is limited. You can have the small success of being well received if you fit in responsively, rather than dancing your own dance regardless of where you are. You cannot expect to change your surroundings – and nor should your surroundings change you: it is good to be constant to your own way as you travel. As Hai discovered, this can be a difficult balance to keep: to be true to yourself, and still fit in to a place that is not your own.

Image

'Above the mountain is fire: Travelling.
A noble one is clear and thoughtful in administering punishments, and doesn't draw out legal proceedings.'

Sequence

Travelling follows from Hexagram 55, Abundance:
'Exhausting greatness naturally means letting your dwelling place go, and so Travelling follows.'

The image advocates that you don't make a meal of things or extend your own punishments,

Yes, I think Yi's describing the relationship here - as Professionalsky says, temporary - and then there's an implied "yes" to your question.

There aren't hexagrams for yes and no, so you always get explanation or information and then you have to work out the yes/no part, which isn't always obvious. Hilary explains it here:

You haven't posted an interpretation just a page from Hilary. It's better to have more input from you. Some ideas here

Re your question - you ask if you should 'give up thinking about' an ex you are still in love with? Well that's not possible, one cannot just 'give up' thinking about someone that one is in love with. If one could then I don't think one would have been in love at all. People don't just 'move on' from deep emotional connections, and what does that even mean anyway?

You may have finished, you many not see him but it doesn't mean you can just turn your thoughts off as you no doubt have found out. Perhaps you are really asking if you should give up hope of reconnection?

You haven't said anything of your own interpretation here which is important. I don't think 56uc here is really saying one way or the other. What do you think ? How do you take it ?

What feels temporary, the relationship or the break up of it ?

56 cautions against taking past disappointments into future situations. So perhaps this is a warning to give yourself plenty of time to move on from the old relationship before you attempt to enter any new romance.
56 might also be a warning to the group here that this poster hasn’t been back to “well receive” or “appreciate” our interpretations since she posted three days ago. Perhaps it’s saying she is the Wanderer just passing through!
