Are any readers interested in Shen Shu or Magical Lots Divination? I would like to communicate with you about this interesting divination method about what text you use and your method of consulting it. Stuart Oring

Hi Stuart,
Could you perhaps tell a little more about this way of divination?
Is there any information about it somewhere?

Hi Hans,

The book I have is : The Magical Lots of ZhuGe lIang which seems to be the English Translation. There is a very good website that has the Shen Shu on it and you can cfast it there called Yi Jing Oracle of the Moon .https://www.yijing.nl/i_ching/ That website also cover the I Ching as well. But, Shen Shu is a simple oracle that is somewhat related to the I Ching. There are no hexagrams but it is based on the lines of the hexagrams and gives advice after you make your cast. You can visit that website and try it out. You type in your question and it will bring you to an advice giving reply. You can cast or select manually.
The person who invented Shen Shu was a master of I Ching and put this system together. However, I believe that the original method of casting was by selecting 3 words most appropriate to your question, counting the brush strokes of the Chinese symbols --and there was a system to arrive at a number from that from 001 to 364. I like the brush stroke method. Personally, I believe the answers you get to your question seem to me to be more appropriate by that system rather than from the other casting method.

I believe that the book I mentioned is available in English at Amazon. That is where I bought it.
But, the person on the website translated the text from the Chinese and I like Lise's translation and commentary better.

Hope that helps! Stuart

Hi trauts,
Thank you for the information. As I read your post, I remember seeing this method on LiSe's website some time ago, just didn't know it was called Shen Shu divination. I am going to look into it further.

Does this mean that you must be competent in the Chinese language?

No, you do not have to be competent in Chinese. There are stroke dictionaries online that tell you the number of strokes in words or you can carefully look at the stroke dictionary online and magnify the character and count the strokes.
