My situation is this:

I am from a poor Arabic country, my ultimate goal is to live in a European/1st world country, but first...I need money to do so

So I thought I'd go and get a job first at a golf country (Dubai/Qatar..etc)

I asked the I ching if this was a good Idea? Is this a good thing to do?

And I had 22 to 15

Could someone help me with this please? Thank you so muc

Welcome Bachirjung.
22. Grace can represent a time when people are enjoying a beautiful dream which may or may not become a reality. The trigrams represent fire below and mountain above, a combination that suggest a campfire and the light of the fire does not extend too far. So a warning that your dream may not be well grounded or a pointing out that you should get all the information you can about your goals. The first line reinforces this idea that you have a dream but to bring it into reality you must be grounded in reality. It changes to 15. Modesty, the hexagram of the honest soul who goes through life with calm confidence. I see these hexagrams as encouraging you that your idea of getting a job in a gulf country is a good practical way of heading towards your ultimate goal. I also see 15 as urging you not to be too focused on your ultimate destination but to enjoy the journey of traveling towards your goal every step of the way.

Getting a job is always a good idea. Is working hard your thing?

Hi BachirJung,

Not sure what to make of your reading. Moving to a new country is a really big decision for anyone.

Rosada makes some good points. 22's Oracle says, "Beauty. Creating success. Small yield from having a direction to go."

"Small yield," which isn't the same as no yield at all, though...

...and I just got a phone call and have to go. I don't much have ideas I feel firmly about anyway at the moment.

Have thought about it some more - not sure about this, but I wonder if the reading means somehow there's no need for the intermediate step?

Why do I wonder that... well, 22 is about adornment, something added, like dressing up. It's the presentation or appearance part. Seems to me what's added-on here is the country in between.

22.6 - "White beauty. No mistake" - means no adornment is necessary. You don't need a lot of fancy colors.

22.1 says there's no need for a carriage. I've come across examples and threads where people have pointed out this is not necessarily criticism or "yelling." After all, it's a line of 22 - Beauty - and it says, "Making your feet beautiful." Going by that, 22.1 is just a statement of fact - your own feet are beautiful enough, you don't need a carriage to get where you want to be. (I'm figuring the intermediate stay in the Gulf country is the carriage - a way to move yourself somewhere else eventually which is your goal.)

Also, lines 1 and 6 are the moving lines. That's a big jump, from one extreme of the hexagram to the other, and a big jump in a reading has been known to mean a big jump in real life. No intermediate step. One end, then the other end.

Of course I have no earthly idea how that would work in real life. You seem convinced you can't go straight from where you are to where you want to be, and after all you're there and know things.

But if - if - Yi's saying you can, does that make any difference or spur any ideas?

'Adorning' through 'Authenticity'

Beautifying any situation through authentic expression of self is always a good thing to do. 15 however could well be indicating that for you it is important to weigh the pros and the cons very carefully. it is important to take into consideration any complications that you may not be seeing fully right now.

22 asks that while what you propose may seem beneficial in many ways you need to consider how this may impact you as a person. Yi advocates via 22 that clarity is needed for all big decisions and that a move such as this is not to be taken lightly or on a whim. Is your idea of going to a gulf country first an 'away from' or moving towards' based thought?

This is the tension created between 22.1 and 22.6

22.1 - Consider your current position carefully. Are your proposed ideas aligned more with negative or positive influences?
22.6 - Wisdom based in purity, truth and simplicity can not be faulted.

An old adage says "Beware jumping out of the frying pan into the fire". There is also the alternative of a larger leap that lands in neither frying pan or fire. Only you, though, will be able to establish what is 'good' for you in this situation based on the criteria you use to define 'good'.

.. or the reading might mean something else for you.

Good Luck
