Hi Cristian,

I have bought Alex' book, and I can recommend it, provided you are willing to accept what he gives as the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He has his own way of dealing with the najia system, and, in his own words, 80% of the book are his own ideas, the other 20% is the traditional stuff. He asked me to write a short review about his book. This is what I wrote:

"At this time there are three English books available which deal with the system of Wen Wang Ba Gua (or najia) divination:

- 'The Authentic I Ching' by Wang Yang and Jon Sandifer
- 'I Ching - divination for Feng Shui and Destiny' by Raymond Lo
- 'Super I-Ching' by Alex Chiu.

Alex' book is far the best, both from an informative point of view as a practical one. The other two books only give the very basics, like the 'Self' and 'Other' lines and the Six Relationships. But there is far more to it, and Alex gives most of it. A wealth of information which will keep you busy for months. On the other hand, if Alex finds things in the original system useless, he won't give it to you. His book doesn't tell you where he got his information from, which ideas are his own and which ideas are from other sources. You have to accept it as it is, and as a researcher I find this difficult. I try to check his writings with the few Chinese books I have about this subject, but my knowledge of the Chinese language is still limited and the subject is too complex to understand it all.

Things he has to work on: pictures, please. The relationship between Elements can easily be shown in clarifying pictures, which would help in understanding the basic principles of the Super I-Ching system.
Also, the book is a direct copy of the website, which produces texts like 'Click here to.....'. Which is very annoying, the book should have been checked for this before going to the press."

I think that in the next few years a lot more will be published about the najia system, and a lot of writers will use Alex's book as a starting point. The book is just a copy of his website, so there isn't anything new in it. But it sure reads better from paper. I enjoy the book because it contains a wealth of information, not available in other books in a Western language.

And (here it comes again): if you want to know where the basics of the najia system stems from, read my article about the Eight Houses system.

Best,

Harmen.

Hi Harmen

Thanks for your rewiev. I better wait with Super I.Ching untill I have learned more of the traditional IC. Is najia divination more efficient that traditional I Ching?

Regards
Cristian

You can't say it is more efficient, as it is a completely other way of using the Yi. Normally the Yi isn't used for predicting the future; fortunetelling is often considered as improper use of the oracle, because the Yi tells about the here & now, not about the future. Najia is only concerned with fortunetelling. Besides that, najia is 80% Four Pillars and just 20% Yijing. If you want to learn the najia system, you would do yourself a great favour if you learn a lot of Four Pillars Astrology. This also means you don't have to wait with "Super I Ching" (I actually hate that name because najia only uses the hexagrams of the Yi as a 'dress boy' to put Five Phases labels on) untill you know more about Yijing. The text of the Yi isn't used, and also trigram images play a minor part.

Best,

Harmen.

Hi Harmen

I skimmed thorugh your article about 8 house system and found it quite comprehensive.
I wonder if The four Pillars Astrology system can be used for exact predictions?

I was looking for informations on T´ieh Pan Shen Shu or Iron plate system which according to Sherill/Chu is secret. Do you have any info in this direction?

Regards

Cristian

As far as I know Four Pillars is often used for exact predictions. But FP is not my field.

About Tie Ban Shen Shu: I can't tell you....it's a secret.

:)

Just kidding. I know nothing about it. But Iron Plate Divination can hardly be called a secret. There are a lot of Chinese books available about this subject.
