Hello all,

This is my first time writing and I have a few questions about how to read the lines. It seems that in most interpretations one or two lines are focused on. Do you just focus on the lines that seem to answer your question? It is hard because some describe totally opposite results. Are the lines read in time progression like 1 is the present and 6 is the future outcome? Maybe if you help me interpret these hexagrams I can better understand. I recently learned that the Center I work for is slated to close; this was not a great surprise as our latest Director had been scheming since she got the postition to sabotage our (successful) programs so that she could legitimately get rid of the site (her reasons are unfathonable). First I asked the Iching what would happen to our site and got 26. Every line fit except for the sixth, no success. Next I asked about my feelings of being left behind (there were 4 of us who had worked there for at least 15 years, three are retiring with a bonus which leaves me to bear the burden of losing and wondering where I will be placed next) and I got 27. Last I asked what will happen to me now and I got 48. I can see lines that make sense such as the muddy well and water leaking as reffering to the work environment but does the clear water mean that the work environment will change for the good? Please advise.:duh:

No changing lines, I used an online site that casts with a click of the mouse.

If you didn't get any changing lines then theres no need to make them part of your answer really.

Then what do I use as my answer?

The main text, the Judgement and the Image. Sounds like you don't have a book ? Sounds like you are going soley on the stuff provided on some site ? Sounds like you need to buy a book or do Hilarys course here. Use the computer programme here i think that provides you with more than just the moving lines.

I use the online site when it is not convenient to throw coins. Then I go to this site or the Yi Jing Book of Sun and Moon site to see their interpretations. The Yi JIng great image for 48 says;
"Above wood there is water, a well the noble one encourages the toiling people to stand by each other" The judgement is: "Changing the city, not changing the well, not dying away, not increasing
They go, they come, always getting water Almost reaching the water and yet actually hauling up water, or breaking one's pitcher - pitfall"
Is this basically saying that no matter where I am placed when my work site closes I have my inner self as a source as long as I take care of myself? If so, that was not what I was asking. I was looking for a more practical answer. Like will the place I am put be a difficult or easy place to work, or will I fit in. Is this anwered and I am missing it?

I don't know. Theres so much info about 48 on this site. We have just finished an entire memorising thread on it in the Exploring Divination section, and also if youlook under 'Search' and go to 'Hexagram Index' and look at 48 there and how its applied to peoples questions you'll find much info there too. Hang on lol ! This is kind of ironic the impression i get of how you're finding out about the Yi sort of correlates to the message in 48. In the well there is everything one needs but one cannot always access it for various reasons. I think that is what is meant by the rope not reaching the water or the jug breaking. The fact that you were reading the lines without receiving any moving lines and you didn't know what to look to then made me feel you don't have the basics about consulting the Yi..I'd think you need a book or to do Hilarys course to get the most out of understanding your answers.

Anyway with relation to your question I don't know. Could it be rather than sit and wonder what will happen you get a bit more proactive in getting your jug down to the well. IOW seeing what there is and how you might access it, maybe a bit more effort is needed for you to get the water (ie what you need in the job) To get what you need from a well you have to make sure your rope is long enough and your pitcher isn't broken

To illustrate this is quite a passive, fatalistic attitude to the well. I appreciate thats how things often are in the world of work,we gotta go where we are sent, but nevertheless I would say your answer asks you to look to your rope and your jug, your abilities, intentions, motivations to make sure you are able to take what you want rather than soley wait to see what you are given . Maybe you should bug some people a bit more :mischief:

Also of course if this well, place of work is untenable and you can't access it, you could find another way to get what you need. What you need, the water, isn't limited only to this place. This particular well isn't the only one water flows to

I did read the thread and got a bit confused as to how it related to my situation.
But, the interpretation really makes sense, my place of work has been untenable, I was not getting what I needed there. Even though I feel that it was wrong for the site to be sabotaged and closed, I also felt some relief because the burden of it's success and survival was too heavily on me. Thank you.
