This just in from Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP)

Analyses of a new high-resolution map of microwave light emitted only 380,000 years after the Big Bang appear to define our universe more precisely than ever before. The eagerly awaited results announced last year from the orbiting Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe resolve several long-standing disagreements in cosmology rooted in less precise data. Specifically, present analyses of the WMAP all-sky image indicate that the universe is 13.7 billion years old (accurate to 1 percent), composed of 73 percent dark energy, 23 percent cold dark matter, and only 4 percent atoms, is currently expanding at the rate of 71 km/sec/Mpc (accurate to 5 percent), underwent episodes of rapid expansion called inflation, and will expand forever. Astronomers will likely research the foundations and implications of these results for years to come.

WOW!!!!
zen2.gif

That is probably the closest we've been able to look God in the face...

And what about those 4% of atoms? is the nature of the universe emptyness or what? with that low percentage of occupied space, Im surprised we cant all walk through walls!!!!

that is really amazing, HOORAY!!!! for the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropro..er.. probe

"and will expand forever"

hum...
now thats strange...
shouldnt it all at some point go backwards till its all the size of the point of a needle again?
will we just be getting bigger and bigger, till just walking to the bathroom takes eternity?
thats freaky...

that is really interesting...

did you hear the new black hole theory that hawkins is now saying?

they used to think that only gamma radiation escaped from black holes, but now they realize INFORMATION also escapes.

i guess if a star gets sucked in,we can see it from out here..so the information of that happening 'escapes' the infinite death gravity.

information overcomes 'pure destruction'---- metaphor??

Hi Bobby,

Interesting, haven't heard of the Hawkins info, but, makes sense in a way. Wonder what parameters were used to determine the definition of 'information'?

'Pure' destruction; now theres a term worthy of contemplation. ;))
