Hi, Shelley, welcome aboard.

Have you noticed that Chris has quietly adopted some of our suggestions? In his posts on this thread he has done what we have asked of him, and done it splendidly, imo.

Bravo, Chris! Please don't leave. And good luck with the contract.

Namaste,
Joan

Hey Chris, please don't leave! Even though I am just a novice and barely understand anything you say, I enjoy your posts simply because they ARE SO detailed; it makes everything so much more interesting.

Chris, please don't get artistic. What you write is fine, the only problem is the length. Your mail to Val about 14-43 was wonderful. A mail of manageable length, and then links to more information: great!!

'Resistance to modern views', I don't think it is a problem. Maybe for an occasional individual, but certainly not for most of us. On the contrary, we love information both from old times and from modern science. It is what makes this whole approach to the Yi so interesting.

And I am very happy for you that you got a contract!

Nice idea, Joan - anyone offering to write the program? IOW, not possible without great expense and complication, I wouldn't think.

Re-archiving... it is hard to know what numbers to pick. I can load all of '61&62' - only 42 posts (Val, are you sure you can't load it?)... - all of another thread with 119 posts... but get stuck after 81 posts of the famous 'Shen Shu' thread. Obviously it depends on length of posts...

I think I'll have to experiment with this, see what works. For now I'll set it to archive the first 50 posts on a thread when it reaches 60 posts. This will apparently take effect on each long thread as soon as someone posts to it. Let me know how this goes.

Apart from that...
- if you're going off at a tangent, please start a new thread
- please keep the external links coming! (Though if you happen to own the site you're linking to, you could always link back from the same page

)
- minimal email-style quoting of previous messages, please.

After all this, I hope that contract leaves you time to post, Chris!

Hilary...

Actually the "shortage" on 61 & 62 was a temporary situation. I tried and tried and couldn't get past a code for tab But later in the day I tried again, and, after the interminable "dial-up" wait, the whole page loaded.

So I would say at this point...it's "iffy" at worst.

Love,

Val
