If one asked "What does this [social] movement need right now?"
And cast 22.2>26 ...what would your interpretation be?

So far, from past threads, my interpretation: propriety, patience, maturity (letting the beard grow), restraint, respect of roles.

I'll share more details if necessary but curious if anyone has further reads on the line.

Based on Wilhelm's interpretation:

° Six in the second place means:
Lends grace to the beard on his chin.

The beard is not an independent thing; it moves only with the chin. The
image therefore means that form is to be considered only as a result and
attribute of content. The beard is a superfluous ornament. To devote care to it
for its own sake, without regard for the inner content of which it is an
ornament, would bespeak a certain vanity.

This sounds like a call for taking care of the inner organization of the social movement, catering to the social bond within...Based on the image of hexagram 26, it may seem that you need to look at past actions that may help you in this situation in the present?

I think the answer might be directed back at you.

Can you in fact help them? In asking the question you're asking of what is needed presumably from the perspective wishing to provide something? But can you provide it or is wanting to provide at least an appearance, to yourself, that you can give something?

Hilary's translation just says 'hair' though I always think of the beard as in Wilhelm

'Making your hair beautiful.'

I think it's a very difficult line to understand but a number of my own experiences suggest it has to do with an aspect of self presentation which is around 'showing up' for, a kind of self consciousness to do with wanting to be seen to be available or helpful or just there. But that is all it is, one is just there. Thinking of for example of a funeral for someone who may not be close but to whom one wishes the relatives to know that one has enough respect for that person to attend.

There's no judgment here in the line about whether it is a good idea to make one's hair or beard beautiful. In life one does that beautification in order to present oneself before others, to show up, to care for appearance signals respect to others or acknowledgement of an occasion. For example if you go to a friend's wedding making yourself look nice is not just vanity but also respect also for the occasion but it isn't at least in my own experience more than that.

I feel Yi is talking to you about your relation to whatever it is. Perhaps you want to show respect in some way or just show up but I'm not sure it is in your power to do more than that with this line.

Also hair is a great indicator of all kinds of things and especially has to do with status, historically anyway. For example slaves in certain times and places may have had to have shaved heads or only certain people can have their hair a certain way etc etc not to mention the furore created by mean growing their hair in the 60s, hair is always more than just hair it is a public signifier of one's stance and status. Then again it still only is hair and while it proclaims one's allegiance (whether freely chosen or foisted on one) it doesn't really do more than proclaim that but sometimes that is enough and the right thing to do.

If it is a direct answer to the question then the social movement possibly needs to clearly indicate or demonstrate what is is, what it is aligned with but it isn't a strong proactive line IMO as line 2s often aren't (will have to think about that) it's quite small and it's about presentation.

This is a great reading. I agree with everything Trojina said about line 2. H26 is a happy one, and it gives me a sense of hope both from the image and the oracle interpretation. If I was a farmer and had a plot of crops that I hope to harvest eventually, this could be seen as a great metaphor for social change. These things take a village and they start with something deep in our hearts. Line 2 from H22 could essentially be a lead into the oracle reading on h26. Tending to the growth of ones means of living, and status. A noble one usually seeks to bring people together to make improvements. H26 is the next level of action, and h22 would appear to be the beginning starting with the one asking the question. Inner cultivation of what is needed would be a great start. This is the kind of reading I would be grateful to start my day off with.

Acceptance that the desired outcome is long down the road is helpful to do the work right now, whatever can truly be done every day.

Good luck,

The movement needs to grow up and Display it's Maturity.

More lawsuits & campaigns vs loud emotional displays (for example)
would be a suggestion that fits 22.2 (26)

WOW this maps exactly onto the discussions we have been having....around performativity, if this movement/group really is connected with and seeing members as part of the surrounding community.
There is this narrative of "outside agitators" that many feel is unjustified and divides us, but without tending the bonds to the people of this place outside of agitation & activism, it begs the question of who this is really for.
And a lot of what is being advised, is to study the history of similar movements that already exist in this area.

At first this line made no sense to me but wow!

Interesting Trojina. I could see this interpretation as well. I am not quite an "insider" on this movement and showed up in a few spaces to see if I could help facilitate as there were many problems/conflicts/harm being done. But my life is invested elsewhere and to be totally honest there is a sense in which showing up to this cannot be more that topical for me unless I moved to this place and invested in the community, etc.
The positive of just showing up was observing the problems, and drawing out of the woodwork others who saw the same problems and came to offer mature solutions (such as, you must tend to the everday needs & care of everyone involved, speak respectfully, not neglect spiritual hygiene & education, slow down, build solidarity with other movements and struggles etc).
There are many young, emotional and excited people involved and it remains to be seen if the fire will burn out or the commitments made to keep it burning in the long run.
But again, I am more playing the role of observer & advisor. And should be a bit wary of acting in any way that implies ownership of these spaces, or overidentification with them.
