Hi!

I asked Yi what steps to take to find my joy - I am a busy homeschooling mum and want to start a project for myself. Something artistic, but it's been a long time since I did something just to bring me joy. I always tend to do things for external motivation or if I think it will help someone or has a higher purpose. I'm trying to connect to my joy but can't seem to get started.

I have been writing recently which I am enjoying but am not steady with yet. I feel like time is passing by, and I'm not really achieving anything, and it's been hard for me to stay present with my son so am wanting a project that will help me to feel fulfilment so that I can better show up for my son

I get hexagram 36 quite a lot and it always reminds me of my inner child. It conjures an image of her hiding and not feeling safe to express herself and have fun. I also think it's asking me to reflect on what things nourish me but in not sure how ro approach finding it. I feel a little stuck and would love to hear some views on the reading

Thank you ❤️

Hi Toodles34,

H27 <> H36
Nourishment (that which you take in physically/mentally/spiritually) darkens the light. So the names of the hexagrams suggest that a choice is being made or has been made that has extinguished the inner light (your joy)

H27 is the hexagram of feedback, the evaluation of input (Thunder) and output (Mountain).
Trigram Thunder is about the beginning, Spring, and trigram Mountain is about the end, Winter. What is sown in Spring is eaten in Winter, in other words accepting the consequences of choices that are/were made, evaluating them and adjusting them if necessary.

Thunder turns into Fire because of the moving yin line at the 3 position.
The line at the 3rd position is about making choices, but in this case the choice is influenced by external factors. Here one is too passive while decisiveness is required. This line is in trigram Thunder which says that an opportunity is lost by not, figuratively speaking, slamming a fist on the table in favour of oneself and saying: Enough is enough.
Fire gives the advice to make things clear and transparent, to follow the inner passion. What is the fuel that keeps the inner fire burning?
The combination Thunder - Fire is also about becoming visible once again.
The text of this line talks about rejecting nourishment and that continuing in this way brings misfortune, in other words here "nourishment" is sought in the wrong place. It is not the nourishment that is really needed.

Trigram Mountain turns into Earth by the moving line at the 6th position. This is about being too shielded from the outside world, being stubborn and more focused on a goal than its consequences, clinging too strongly to ideals (from the past).
Earth advises to be open to the group/others, support and nurture others, face the world again.

Since I don't know your situation I am not going to formulate an answer to the question. I think based on the above, you can best do that yourself if this interpretation triggers anything.
In very general terms, I think you can say that the answer indicates that choices have consequences and a new choice can be made based on the result you are experiencing now.

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest 😉

'The Tiger's Mouth' through 'Brightness Hiding'

The steps you take as you search for joy are currently being held within a safety blanket that has been wrapped around you to protect the injuries and feelings of isolation that you have grown to feel(36). With this hexagram featuring heavily in other recent casts there does appear to be a persistent echo carrying this theme that very much speaks to the promotion of habitual processes focused on the wellbeing of your inner child - as best you can achieve.

27 calls strongly for a correcting of these habitual sources of nourishment by seeking out what is at the root of your current demise. The very nature of this project (should you choose to accept it as a project) will mean that it will not all be plain sailing or necessarily easy for you, especially in your role as a homeschooling Mum. Perhaps, you may find ingenious ways to find ways to home school (nourish) your child and your inner child at the same time.

The next steps that Yi advocates is to be careful with the thoughts and words you produce and to become mindful of how nourishing, or not, these are for you in the way you currently use them. Similarly, look at moderating the aspects of your daily life that do not take you in the direction you would now like to grow. Replace them with ways that do take you in your preferred direction.

27 is deeply fueled by Hex 2, which is guiding your situation towards greater openness and nurturing, so that in time your steps will be directed towards being more able to respond positively to your needs rather than react negatively to your felt sense of injury and isolation.

27.3 - Break the cycle. 10 more years of this is not going to help in any way. Walk more closely with the beauty in your life instead.

27.6 - Remember the Wisdom here lies in nourishing the adversity you experience. Cross the great river, as only you can and know how to. One step at a time is enough. In so doing you will discover, within you, the best ways to reverse the steps you have been taking over past times. Joy is revealed just through taking the first step and then it'll carry on growing with each subsequent step you take.

... or there may be other interpretations that have a greater meaning for you.

Good Luck.

The I Ching says Joy comes from interactions with others so perhaps holding that idea in the back of your mind can help you cultivate joy. 27.3 then makes me think you may need to have your social connections nourished - maybe you’ve been at home and out of the loop and need to do something to get the creative juices flowing - a trip to the local art gallery perhaps? Or invite friends over for a meal? 27.6 could be nourishing others and 36 references darkness - night? - maybe focusing on making the evening meal special could jump start your joy.
One simple thing you can do right now is be very careful what words you take in, what ideas you Nourish yourself with. Too much of the evening news can Darken a person’s light for ten years easy!
