Is it about being happy with the retreat? You know, a time when you aren't fretting over it but are instead completely content with it?

Or, is it about ending the retreat, going beyond it because the retreat is no longer necessary? The relating hexagram/line is 31.6 which seems to be about the start of something, the very opposite of retreat.

I think it's about no longer interpreting your situation as being a Retreat. Like, let's say you are required to leave your position. Maybe you have gone into town in hopes of doing some shopping and it starts to rain. Perhaps at first you think, "It's only a light drizzle, I'll stick it out." But the rain comes down harder and you realize you must Retreat. At first you're sorry to do so, but by the time you've left the mall and are back in your car heading home you are no longer thinking of yourself as RETREATING from shopping, you are now thinking of yourself as GOING TOWARDS home. So you are no longer retreating, not because you are going back into the store, but because your perspective has changed about why you are going.

When you are being run out of town just tell yourself you are leading a parade given in your honor.
