42 into 8, 1 & 6....What to do?

Hi Folks,
I'm considering purchasing a small property abroad as a significant life change on a limited budget. I have a strong pull to do so but cannot afford (financially) to make a mistake on this decision. I threw 42 into 8 on this, so lines 1 and 6 which seem entirely contradictory. In line 1 it seems that it's time to proceed with an undertaking but 6 implies to me being unstable and possibly self-centered in my actions. Anyone have any ideas, experiences on this please?

H42 is Wind over Thunder
Thunder with a moving line at the 1st position is about acting too quickly without thinking things through, it is too impulsive. Ideas and plans want to be implemented too quickly.
Earth advises to create inner space so that plans and ideas can develop and become more concrete.
The text of this line says:

It is beneficial to begin a great undertaking.
Supreme good fortune. No blame.

Taking on a great undertaking takes time. You don't move overnight. Proper planning, a stable financial situation, etc. are needed to start something big.

Wind turns into Water by the moving line at the 6th position. This is about putting things off, not being able to make a reality of your plans, not following through, getting stuck in thoughts, doubting.
Water advises moving forward within the limits of what is possible. Once things are set in motion let it happen, don't try to controle the proces.
The text of this line says:

He increases no one.
Someone even strikes him.
He does not keep his heart and mind constant and steady.
Misfortune.

Continuing to doubt whether you are making the right choice, continuing to postpone a final choice will not help you in this situation. Make a choice and keep heart and mind aligned.

H42 and H8 both have H23 as a nuclear hexagram which is about letting go, letting the process be the process and not intervening.
H8 is about leadership, the yang line in the 5th position leads the other 5 yin lines. This could mean that you have to take charge of your own thoughts and not the other way around.
At the same time, it could mean that you might need to hire help, a real estate agent who knows the situation on the ground. Someone who can take charge there.

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest

It certainly seems that Yi is saying this is a good thing for you to connect with and to develop the idea further.

42.1 - Your plans to relocate still have to become more solid, and perhaps need to undergo some modification or even major surgery, however you should still move forward with them.

42.6 - If your plans become excessive or too highfalutin and inauthentic then you will miss the opportunities and forego any of the benefits that you are really seeking. Walking in this direction the way closes and you will miss out on the blessings that life is potentially presenting you with here. Be clear about what you are looking to achieve / gain and don't over play the situation and certainly do not entertain any insincere or fanciful reasoning.

That 42.6 flat out says this plan doesn’t work out. While it seems weird to base your decision on the flip of a coin I would think this advice shouldn’t be ignored. At the very least I would have the attitude of taking things very slowly and see what emerges. Hexagram 8. Seeking Union might refer to seeking to co-ordinate with the seller and as the second hexagram might indicate the project doesn’t move beyond this seeking phase - that is, you ask questions but don’t close the deal, at least not in the way it has been presented to you now.

Hi to everyone who replied with some very helpful insights here. To be clear here, this is something I've been considering doing for a couple of years so progress is very slow and been subject to reality checks, periods of switching off from the plan and sometimes a lot of frustration. Also, I wouldn't be moving abroad immediately but would envisage a gradual transition over a 4 to 5 year period if I owned a place and could conceivably rent it for periods when I'm not there.
Anyway, I am currently focusing on one particular property so I threw another reading to ask specifically about putting in an offer and got 33, lines 4 &6, into 39. I don't know if to take this as a message to retreat from the whole idea although I'm not being pursued and need to retreat from anyone in this case unless I choose to see this as an approach or perspective in myself to rise above. Or could it be seen that the move itself is a long term retreat on my part over time and that there will be obstructions (39) to overcome along the way? Any perspectives welcome. Thanks

I wouldn't take the oracle texts too literally. It could also be the retreat from a plan or idea.
When you substitute the word people for ideas in the text of the Image, I think the advice is clear.

The text of both moving lines show that distancing yourself from the idea is a good idea.

Heaven turns into Water by the moving lines at the 4th and 6th positions.
This is about wanting to take charge, trying to direct a process when in this situation it is not meant to be. Water's advice is to let the process take its own course, to adopt a following attitude rather than an active stance.

H39 is the hexagram of the obstacle, the Image text is about self-reflection and character adjustment. So this also shows that it is about an inner obstacle. Hence H33 and the moving lines also talk about retreating.

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest
