Hi friends - hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas break!

I would greatly appreciate some insight into a question I posed earlier. I asked Yi what is X's nature and I received 48 Unchanging.

Now I have long seen X as a person with tremendous potential on all levels, but sadly X just continues to struggle through life. Abused as a teenager, alcoholic, constantly deceptive and just sort of limping along. I would like to help X as I have seen their positive side: incredibly sensitive, deeply artistic, very caring, talented and highly intelligent.

So in some ways The Well does seem quite an apt description but I also wonder if it's how I see X!

Anyway it would be very interesting to hear how others might interpret this. If you were a hexagram, what would it be? :)

Many thanks,

Cathy

Even if it's unchanging, you can still look through the six lines to capture some of the scope of the Well's meaning. Here, maybe, the Well needs lots of care and maintenance if it isn't just going to get neglected and useless. He may need a sense of how he can be useful, or how to serve others. Some deeper purpose to get the flow going.

That is spot on!

Nigel Richmond writes:
"He is shy, yet has much to give.
When persuaded to flow he nourishes all around him."

"Too gentle to overcome opposition, without help it cannot flow."

The well is not a fountain, someone has to draw the water, to help to inspire to show the way.
I kinda get the well often for myself, I know i can do much, but I just don't have a strong desire/drive on my own.
I got my ph.d just because I was forced to. I wouldn't even think to get it on my own.
Someone always gives me a task to accomplish, then I do my best and I succeed.

I think your desire to help him is a noble one, and as bradford said, give him a purpose a sense of how he can be useful.

Love your handle, CC. :)

For me, personally, 48 is a reminder to keep my own well clean and maintained, and to be cautious with the process of drawing water from it so as not to accidentally break the clay water holding pot through carelessness or indifference, and to make sure the rope or long wooden pole is long to reach deep down to the enriching water. It sounds as though you need this yourself in order to reach the nourishing waters of X. And X could learn from your example if he or she sees the result of this in you. It would serve you and X better if you each can reach down into yourself and draw from your well of potentials.
