"It's the same in human life; there's in man likewise a fate that lends power to his life. And if he succeeds in assigning the right place to life and to fate, thus bringing the two into harmony, he puts his fate on a firm footing."
Meng - I'd agree this is a difficult concept to get ones head around. In my case years of false trails and dead ends. I'm being distracted and pulled off to one side looking to do what is "right" and "correct" rather than looking to do what is right for me. Doing what is right for me is what provides the harmony that is balancing my life with my destiny.
In fact I'm so happy being grumpy that my kids now love me for it -they love me in a whole new way. In this small respect I guess i have "succeeded in assigning the right place to life and to fate". I was born to be grumpy so I'm going to celebrate it, and life celebrates it with me.
"Fiber" is a good metaphor, IMO. Weaving, by extension, is also a good picture. The interaction of warp and weft of life and fate.

Rambling….
I assume that by “inner fiber” you talk about one’s seal, blueprint or something like that. Yes?
I don't think the soul knows what's good or bad, it does know what's creative and destructive.....these are the laws of the universe. In many ways destructive energies serve the natural process that keep us alive....like bacteria in the intestines.
The human mind is designed to work with creative, energy-rich currents of 'living information'. Destructive information distorts and evenually blocks our perception. Over time it can destroy our neurological circuits. Just like drugs do.

Please don't wait for me. I'm not able to get to a computer for a couple of days.

Ravenstar, really interesting what you say at your post.
Regarding this,
Can you say a little more about destructive energies and how they keep us alive ?

Here's one example from W/B's 16.5. I very much agree with the concept.
Six in the fifth place means:
Persistently ill, and still doesn't die.
Here enthusiasm is obstructed. A man is under constant pressure, which prevents him from breathing freely. However, this pressure has its advantage - it prevents him from consuming his powers in empty enthusiasm. Thus constant pressure can actually serve to keep one alive.
That's more or less the theme of 18... In many ways, what remains from the sacrifices offered in 50 will spoil if not attended properly. Negligence, nonattendance and spoilage, should prompt action and change; if no action is taken, change will occur, nevertheless, but no interaction with it and no say in the outcome.
Whatever else it is, the Ting's about inner transformation, that inner cooking that yields alchemical transformation. It's about making yourself the vessel of that transformation. There's another aspect of 50 that I've never really grasped though, and I think Frank knows about it.
The altar of spiritual ritual and the process of altering what is felt to bring current situation into harmony with the timing and the spirit. Here is the 10th hexagram of the set of human spirituality, the final reservoir of this cycle. The active process has been gathered up into its stable and homely forms. Spirit reduced to the regular slots in normal homely life.
Hi, Bert:... Then, when the flow is steady, imagine a couple making sweet love in the stream of chi. Don't be afraid for all the physical feelings, those are part of this balancing act...
In my opinion hex 50 is all about sublimation, culture. It gives ways of how to transform very raw and primal energies into something lovingly and very usefull... What we do in a cooking-pot is simply making raw food into something more edible. That proces is used as a metaphor for civilization...
Ravenstar, I'm almost speechless from your last post. For me, these inner impressions have no words yet, and writing about them feels like riding a bicycle in complete darkness. But what you've written feels safe to ride on. Very well said, imo.
maremaria Can you say a little more about destructive energies and how they keep us alive ?
... we go through a destruction, that forces us to enter a vast landscape, a desert, a place where we surrender and let something larger than ourselves enter our lives. The destruction then seems to take us on a journey of increase to find meaning in our lives. Although at the time it seems to shatter the sense of who we are. Why? Maybe because our soul wants to go down another road but we wouldn't listen to the signs. The destruction forces us to stop going wherever we thought we were going and turn in another direction.
...
ravenstar
Yes Ravenstar, you did !!! And in a lovely language . Recently , I came across to those destructive forces which at the same time seemed to be constructive. I can relate to what you say, especially to the part LiSe already quoted.Hope this helped to answer your question.

This is beautiful!! Could it apply to 41-42? I am always a bit puzzled about 41. It's name is probably a picture of an empty container, maybe another simpler cauldron than the one of 50. Picture of 42 again a vase but one which overflows or sends clouds of steam up. A full one.
Really loved both your posts.

If we look at Hexagram 50, we are letting go, and truly aligning our human spirit with that of divine consciousness. Sacrificing involves faith, love, patience, courage and optimism. And what of prayer? Is it not a conduit to this energy to the universal mind. Does not prayer help to rekindle the embers of the soul's fire?
This hex also talks of the eyes and ears. If you were able to look at the many nerve endings in the body, the most highly concentrated areas are around the eyes and ears. Also the pineal gland is located between the eyes and ears and indicates that what we listen to and have faith in, will manifest in our lives. The solar plexus as well is part of the sympathetic nervous system which is a network of fibres, ganglia and plexuses.

"We can often observe people crossing their arms in front of their stomachs, or bending over slightly in that area, even when they are standing. This posture is an attempt at self-protection because the stomach or solar plexus area is the seat of the emotional body. Via our solar plexus, we unconsciously receive the emotional vibrations of others. Normally, we stretch out the feelers or antennae of our emotional body so as to come into contact with the energies of our surroundings through these delicate threads or fibers, and to exchange energies. However, the vulnerable energy of infants and small children is confronted again and again with negative vibrations, so that these fibers begin to retract at the first sign of emotional negativity. We all know the feeling of nausea, or butterflies in our stomach, when we are about to enter or are in an emotionally oppressive situation. Our sympathetic nervous system is registering fear via the solar plexus ganglion"
I'm sure Frank can enlighten us more on this subject
