Do you think hex 55.1 relates more to a group of people or a single person?

I think through the use of the Chinese character "Qi", which is a general third person pronoun meaning anything, he, she, they. It could be either one, a group or a single person. Whichever was more on your mind at the time of casting.

It's about "one" finding their "equal lord", that is: the authority that they wish to follow. It is suggested that this will take a long time, but that is alright (presumably to make sure you've actually found your equal lord). After this, going possesses honor. Or, moving forward with your life, finally, will greet you with the honor you deserve. The fact that this line leads to 62, by itself, suggests that what happens in the meantime of finding your "equal lord" are a lot of little things which have required your attention, and have obscured the main goal, possessing honor.

Hi j

It can relate to either, or anything, depending on the context and your own intuition. There are no hard and fast rules. The I Ching is flexible and flowing.

If you think of it more in a way of matching frequencies, fitting puzzle pieces, harmonic notes, that sort of thing, then one or group is decided by the question.

Edit: although I must qualify, for the amorously frustrated among us, that fitting puzzle pieces thing doesn't necessarily mean *s/he is the one*, but could refer to a moment of time when things match up for whatever reason

Hi jbutler,
in my case it has always been a single person, male (I`m female) and it was always right that we just stayed together for a certain time. For working at a project or for mastering a challenge for example. I can say it clear: It is not a relationship connection (line 1 and line 4 are both Yang) but a very close friendship. If the project is done or the challenge mastered, the very close contact is over. But I also agree to all others here and especially liked what gene said: The I Ching is a flexible thing. Means: Yes I can imagine that it also means an organisation, not very helpful I guess. If you would tell us a little bit more, maybe we could help more.

Best wishes Yvonne
