"da bagua - big trigrams", Thank You.
The big trigrams hex. 61 ('Fire') and hex. 62 ('Water') is followed by hex. 63: Water over Fire and hex. 64: Fire over water which ended the KWS as well. This I first recognise now after You pointed it out. Thanks again.

"Da Ba Gua, page 24, Yijing, Word by Word, II, Bradford Hatcher (page 34 in the pdf, Volume Two, HERE)

Hilary, You wrote: "....As for what to call them: I learned from Brad Hatcher to call them da bagua - big trigrams. I think they're clearly part of the pattern-making that goes on with trigrams through the sequence. 19-20, for instance, immediately precede a series of 7 hexagrams with mountain or thunder.... " and I wondered. Untill I realized that this serie occurs in The primal Heaven arrangement, also presented by Bradford Hatcher in his Volume 2 page 32, Fig. 1 (See link #31, this thread)

???

No, I didn't mean any fully-understood systematic arrangement, I find those very boring. I meant the good old endlessly mystifying King Wen Sequence.

19 - thunder trigram writ large
20 - mountain trigram writ large
21 - inner trigram thunder
22 - outer trigram mountain
23 - outer trigram mountain
24 - inner trigram thunder
25 - inner trigram thunder
26 - outer trigram mountain
27 - inner thunder, outer mountain

Interesting how this section always changes just one trigram in the 'jump' from one pair to the next - that makes it feel more like a story, don't you think? 22, then the light under the mountain goes out - 23. 24, then the inner thunder that was nurtured under the earth learns to follow heaven - 25. 26, and then the energy stored up inside gets eaten by the moving lower jaw - 27.

For more on this and the 40s and what might be going on here, see Danny Van den Berghe on the 'I Ching landscape' in the Sequence. That's truly fascinating stuff, too. You can still find it on his website - http://www.fourpillars.net/articles.php

Right, but You will NOT find it following in the KWS - Hex. 19 is followed by: Wind over Earth (20) - Fire over Thunder (21) - Mountain over Fire (22) - Mountain over Earth (23) - Earth over Thunder (24) and so on....
The so called Da Ba Gua (Big trigram) is ONLY followed in the way mentioned by You in the Early (Primal) arrangement - NOT in the KWS... Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I'm concerned Hex. 19 and on is followed by those mentioned hexagrams. Or ?

I'll wait and think it over. Hmmmmm

We're at cross purposes here, and I don’t quite understand how.

In the KWS...

19 is da bagua thunder; 20 is da bagua mountain
21 has thunder; 22 has mountain
23 has mountain; 24 has thunder
25 has thunder; 26 has mountain
27 has both thunder and mountain

How is that not a series of hexagrams featuring thunder and mountain trigrams?
