I *might* have found one possible reason. Ghostery blocks a snitch cookie from Google AJAX search Api for the "search everything" option.

I think that's probably it. I found one search result from a user saying it was blocking Google Custom Search on a page. Could you try disabling it briefly and loading the page?

What's odd though is that that should also block the search Clarity (save for forums), and it doesn't. Doesn't block the search everything function on my own website either. Wonder if then those search functions use a different API cookie....

Yes, that's completely different. The 'search all except forums' box is the native Wordpress script, part of this site - no external tracking for the add-on to worry about.

Confirmed, it was the Ghostery blocking of the Ajax Api that was the culprit.
But it is very nice to be able to find one's posts again easily through the profile!
