Hi elizabeth,

"I awoke wondering if i should have, or should still offer my landlady a lowered price and try to purchase this place. Why I keep thinking of that now, I dont know... but i'm feeling maybe its worth asking... I dont want to bug the Yi anymore (people have suggested i've already asked too many questions) but i'm curious to know if that would be a right path to take..."

I am afraid that you are day dreaming about something that will not happen, wishing for the unobtainable. There is no coming together on this issue, your landlady is fixed, you cannot budge her. You are both a world apart now and the gulf is increasing. You can ask her, but be prepared for a disappointment, you are in a very weak position here, you have absolutely no bargaining power. You would literally be in her power in this situation, she is the person calling the shots here.
If you had the cash and could pay up front, then things might have been different, but you can't, so the best solution is to move on to the next item on your list.

wf, i do have cash to pay upfront but not the amount SHE asked for. No one (no one in their right mind) would pay her that amount for this apartment, unless they were looking for a place to put a lot of money, which is what most natives in this area do: instead of 401Ks, mutual funds or savings accounts, they put cash in real estate bc they dont trust non-visible means of savings. At any rate, i just dont know if i offer her the lower amount (in cash) if she'll bite.

btw all real estate purchases here are done in cash, its just the way it is. I dont agree with it but there's no other way.

do you mean we're at opposing sides now...just from observation or is that based on the reading somehow? (??)

Hi elizabeth,

I was rereading some of the answers that you have received about this apartment situation. I not saying don't try, by all means go ahead and see her, but I think that nothing will happen, she seems to be in such a strong position and your position is so weak. It is not a matter of opposing sides, its a matter of she has something that you want and she knows it, therefore she will hold out on you. She may think of you as that rich American living upstairs, so in her mind she imagines that you have loads of money stashed away back in the US. So you want, so you pay.

Hi willowfox,

You make a good point, and its true. The reason I didn't counteroffer initially
[landlady: I want twenty dollars (for example)
elizabeth: oh, thats more than i have, sorry. Period. end of exchange]
Was because 1) she didnt publish an ad of for sale anywhere, not online, not in the city "for sale" listings, no where. I interpreted that as not really looking to sell, as much as looking to get fast cash from the rich stupid american (despite the fact that i'm far from rich, and not so stupid). 2) given her posturing, i knew she wanted to control me and that if i agreed to pay and i was still living there during transaction time (1-3 mos) she could use that as leverage, ie pay us more or you can't have it, or else she'd let her family move back in while i was still there, etc etc, and I didnt want to deal with those possibilities.

AT ANY RATE I have to give her last month's rent on Tuesday and I might have the gumption to ask in passing if she'd take what i have to offer. I'm 90% sure the answer is "no"...bc if she wanted to sell she would have posted a listing and be actively showing the place to buyers. (No one has even ever looked at it)...

I'm sick of the double standard here, but, its the price i pay for not being in the US i guess.

I'm curious if there will be a possibility to purchase another apartment that suits my needs, and thus solve some of the financial strain (trust me, it would). So I asked..(yes one more time) what the prospects for purchasing an apartment here are between now and next July. I got Hex 32, unchanging. Twice.

Hex 32. Hêng / Duration
above Chên The Arousing, Thunder
below Sun The Gentle, Wind

The Judgement
Duration. Success. No blame.
Perseverance furthers.
It furthers one to have somewhere to go.

The Image
Thunder and wind: the image of Duration.
Thus the superior man stands firm
And does not change his direction.

This seems...like a "yes", as I understand 32 to stand for steadiness, "the noble one stands and does not change his bearings" and commitment. As in, beyond courtship but to marriage, sealing the deal. Is there any way to interpret this negatively, as a "no"?

Then I asked the Yi to show me a TIME to find and successfully purchase an apartment here. It gave me Hex 31 twice unchanging.

31. Hsien / Influence (Wooing)
above Tui The Joyous, Lake
below Kên Keeping Still, Mountain

The Judgement
Influence. Success.
Perseverance furthers.
To take a maiden to wife brings good fortune.

The Image
A lake on the mountain:
The image of Influence.
Thus the superior man encourages people to approach him
By his readiness to receive them.

Can you fellow Yi-ers help me to interpret the significance of these neighborly hexagrams? I find it curious that they are neighbors, but out of order, 31 being wooing and 32 being more like marriage (courtship and duration). Is that it?

Hi elizabeth,

"So I asked..(yes one more time) what the prospects for purchasing an apartment here are between now and next July. I got Hex 32, unchanging. Twice.

I don't know why at the moment perhaps because I am very tired, but I see this answer as a no. Though hex 32 indicates the end of July and hex 31 indicates the beginning of June. For some reason, hex 32 suggests that after enduring all the problems and changes, you will have a new beginning, maybe around the times I have given you. It suggests giving something up, inorder to start a new cycle, a new way of life. You are in a very weak position and you will remain that way for many months to come. Goodnight.

Thanks wf. Couldn't it also mean -- if those are the times that the hexes signify, which is the part I wasnt aware of -- that that new beginning involves a fresh start by stopping renting and buying a place and thus "refreshing" my outlook and immediate surroundings here? If its a fresh start, it should mean either I purchase and move in and domesticate myself OR I move away...and buy elsewhere. Funny that I did include the timeframe in the question, and the answer gave it exactly back to me.

Anyone else? Other interpretations?

Hi elizabeth,

I am sure you will find another apartment that is up for sale but I think that the actual purchasing of a place will not come about for some reason or another. I think that the sellers that you will meet are only going to be interested in making a fast buck out of you, the apartments that you will be offered are not going to be to your liking, or there will be some other problem with them, the cost is going to be inflated/too expensive, not value for the money at all.

Yes, it could mean that you persevere until you find a place, and then you end one cycle, renting, and begin a new cycle by living in your own house.

But, from some of the answers that you have received before, and now this answer, I think that hex 32 is pointing at something deeper within your life. Buying an apartment, is external gloss, so I believe that this hex is signifying something more important. It is saying, don't rush into things, don't get confused by it all.
Buying an apartment, renting an apartment is the same thing at the end of the day, it gives you a place to live. Therefore, nothing new. So,when something ends, there is always a new beginning. Hex 32 is long enduring, long lasting, such as in a relationship. But you have not found an apartment to buy yet, so there is no relationship with an apartment to be long lasting.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on this subject, so have a think about them.
